For the past couple of months, I have been feeling extremely suicidal because of my hyperacusis. It's all I can think about every day. Does anybody else feel the same way? What do you do about it?

yes hyperacusis with pain, AKA "noxacusis" is a total dream killer.

Even in very mild form this condition is debilitating because of the constant ear fullness and sharp needle like pain.
ENT's and audiologist play stupid about this condition and don't give it the proper medical research it deserves.

Mass Eye and Ear is researching hyperacusis with pain and hopefully treatments happen sooner then never.

How long have you had hyperacusis and what pain do you feel?

Thank you for understanding! I've had hyperacusis for five years now! And I just keep getting worse and worse. There seems to be no end to how much worse it can get. This is why I feel so suicidal! I don't think treatment can come soon enough. I think I might actually end up killing myself

What kind of tests/results have you gotten?

Before I got my hyperacusis, I got an MRI. There is no way that I can get an MRI right now! It would be way too loud! I've also had CT scan of my brain and an MRI of my neck too actually. I've had a hearing test. I'm not sure what other testing would be helpful. I am extremely sensitive to electrical frequencies! All electrical of frequencies hurt immensely! Which is why sound therapy did not work for me. It's been so bad that I haven't been able to even tolerate a single sentence out of someone's mouth

Can you say what the results of these tests were?

All of the tests came out normal. What kind of testing do you think I need to get? Or what results should be expected?

QEEG test.
Other than than you have to wear ear plugs whenever you feel even a bit uncomfortable.

Don't listen to people telling you you need to expose to normal sounds. No. What you need is your cochlea to be free of sounds to give it a chance to heal for months. If you need anything let me know I've dealt with hyper for 4 years now, good luck.

CT of the temporal bone area to show your ear may reveal bone issues.
Are you comfortable posting your audiogram? (you can blank out personal info)

Yes, I get suicidal over my H.......but most often it is because I am convinced it will get worse......or that's what my mind/anxiety thinks......and what then?!

I honestly, in no way, can't see myself living a life with extreme H...........so I have to have a back-up exit plan, if I ever were so unfortuned to end with with an extreme kind (knock on wood that it won't happpen!)

I know what you mean about people telling you to expose yourself to normal sounds! It doesn't help at all! That just makes me worse! What is the QEEG?

I would post my audio gram but I can't find it! I think I lost it!

TheDanishgirl, I know what you mean about needing a back up plan in case you get worse! That is one of my biggest fears! I definitely can't stand my noise sensitivity getting any more worse than it is currently.
