Yeah, I never said that the degree of noise didn't matter, nor did I say that adopting a good attitude is all that's required to habituate to "monster" T.
If you don't think that conscious, willful thought patterns have some impact on the progression and severity of any illness, including severe, chronic pain, then you are simply misinformed.
(emphasis mine)
My point is not that you can think your way out of incapacitating sensory input -- you clearly cannot. My point is that persisting in fatalistic, pessimistic, negative thinking literally restructures your brain and changes your entire body in ways which make pain more painful and distress more distressing.
Again, you are welcome to choose to reject that, but then you are clinging to an unsubstantiated view which directly contradicts dozens of imaging studies of the brain.
I am vitriolic on this subject, because just as someone continually thinking to themselves "I am just totally fucked, my life is horrible and there is nothing I can do to feel better" directly increases their own suffering, having that view reiterated over and over in a public space which is populated by fragile, unhappy people literally causes them physical harm.
I barely drink anymore, actually, because it was becoming counterproductive in terms of my goals with my meditative and professional practices. I like a beer as much as the next guy, but, you know. Alcohol is carcinogenic and makes me write shittier code.
