I have an appointment with an ENT in a week, and I've been hearing really bad things about him, such as he has no patience and can be very rude.

I think it'd be a good idea for me to know what kinds of questions he will be asking, so I'm prepared and so that he doesn't get mad at me and kick me out or something.

Also, what kind of tests will he perform, and approximately how long do ENT appointments usually take?

Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
Hopefully your ENT will reasure you and answer any questions you have .
Normal to arange a MRI and Doppler scan so dont worry.
Usually check your ears and maybe do a hearing test.

Hi, @TEL,

Good luck with your upcoming ENT appointment. I agree with Glynis that the normal procedure they follow is to check your ears thoroughly, and perhaps administer a hearing test if they feel it is warranted.

Some ENT's are rushed, and don't want to spend a lot of time with you; it depends on the doctor. In my opinion, it would be a good idea for you to make up a list of questions you want to ask him, so that you're prepared. Think about what, specifically, your concerns are, and write those down so you don't forget. Don't let him rush you out without getting some answers.

If he feels further tests are warranted, he will order them for you. Do you have any hearing loss? Any unusual problems?

An ENT appointment varies in length, depending upon what (if any) tests they perform.

We wish you well, and hope you'll update us how what you find out.

Best wishes,
Karen

@glynis , @Karen ,

Thanks, and sorry for the late reply.

The appointment was really short. He asked me when it started and if it was painful, then checked in my ears and throat, and if pressure stopped it. He said it's very common, and that I'll grow out of it, and apart from tying off the vein there's nothing to do about it.

So he didn't request any further tests?
No MRI? No hearing test?

Nope.
One of the first things he asked was if I googled it, which of course I had, and what I thought it was. It was pretty clear he expected me to insist that I had a brain tumor or something, so I didn't want to challenge what he said.

I was a little disappointed, I expected him to look a bit further. But it's not so bad now because I'm getting used to it.
