This Spike Has Been Kicking My Butt Past Few Days

Thinking of you Jake :)

hope your spike has settled down buddy....
It's relentless fishbone, I've never had a spike like this before. It's louder than any I have had and it's lasting longer.

Could there be tools out there that are quieter than the ones you use?
I wish there was, but there's no avoiding a chainsaw or chipper in this profession. I was using a hydraulic stick saw, but even that gives out a loud high pitch sound. And eventually I will have to use a even bigger saw like a 440 or even bigger. A chainsaw averages out around 120db, I haven't checked the chipper yet, to scared to.

Don't you agree that your spike was likely caused by your job? If this is true, then it will keep getting worse until you quit your job. This might be for the best - you can take some courses and change careers, and possibly end up earning more than you earn now...

Man, I thought my workplace was noisy, but I do not envy you. I used a sawzall at home with hearing protection and it spiked my tinnitus; that's a lot quieter than a chainsaw. I think it was actually the vibrations that did it.

@Jake007 , it seems bill might be right . I think your job could be causing your spike ..I would say most likely your job is the culprit .
I wish you speedy recovery and hang in there .

Not really it's construction tractor digs the hole we put the pipe in the ground there is only so much ear protection you can have it's life you deal with it and move on you just have to be smart about it I see so many people doing the same work as I do with no protection at all and it freaks me out I've had this T shit for 36 years now just got worse about 4 years ago

Could you use the skills you have to get jobs that involve less noise exposure? There might be a decision that needs to be made here - your job or your ears.

Agreed. I've noticed that a lot of people make/imagine justifications for excessive noise exposures. What is *really* important?

If you are suspecting noise exposure has caused a prolonged spike, then perhaps consider repeating an audiogram and asking your dr for prednisolone? to see if this helps?
I think prednisone is effective only if taken very soon after the acoustic trauma...

Have you considered a quiet desk job? And, no, I'm not kidding.

Your probably right bill, I can't think of anything that I've done to provoke a spike. I gotta figure something out.

Not really, what I really would like to do is be a cable guy.
Go for it! I know switching careers is not easy, but I hope it's something you can do. You have a great personality, I think you'd do well interacting with customers and be able to handle the technical aspects too.

Thank you tinker bell, very kind. I already deal with customers at my job, I get cussed out a lot by people not happy with the way their tree looks after I'm done. And free phone, free every channel you can think of, and free 100 megabytes a second internet sounds nice to me. And it's not a loud job.
