Hello again!

Today I finally went to an ear doctor. He measured my eardrum movement, checked my nostrils etc. One thing I found odd, he said that I should expose my ears to loud sounds. I thought there was a way to treat hyperacusis but apparently there is not, I should just try not to plug my ears.

The meeting went well, but tomorrow I will have THREE HEARING TESTS. I will have audiogram test, LDL-test and acoustic reflex test. And I don't really want to do them, the audiogram will be safe but these other tests don't sound safe. Does any of you have personal experience? Should I cancel these last two tests?

Thank you.

Although there may be a slight chance of a problem with any medical procedure, I'm sure that these tests are very safe, it's highly unlikely that an AU.D would do anything that could cause harm. I had an audiological evaluation about a month ago, including a panel of tests, with no complications. Perhaps somebody else could provide more information about the risks, if any.

Why do I have to even make the acoustic reflex test. What do the doctors care about some bone if it works or not?

I've done them all. I had quite severe hyperacusis five years ago so I'm not gonna lie, they felt like torture. But, hey! I survived. If I remember correctly, I was unable to finish my acoustic reflex test because the noise was too loud for me.

DONT DO ACOUSTIC REFLEX TEST OR LDL TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO POINT TO DO THE AND THEY ARE GONNA HURT YOU MY MAN!!!!! YOU ARE THE ONE WHO DECIDES WHAT TO DO AND YOU CAN SAY THAT YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE THEM DONE!!!!

Mate think about it! If you got hyperacusis what is the point to know at what decibel you are gonna hurt?
And acoustic reflex test is loud as hell!!! It's gonna hurt your ears my man just don't do them... BE SAFE MATE

Allright, I will tell my doctor. Thanks! :)

Thank you for your answer @Elinor. Did you finish your LDL-test?

Mate you know you replied to my thread asking if the hearing tests made my T worse, I only had the audiology test lol!! I didn't have any other tests done, that's why I can say the test didn't make my T worse. I still fear Acoustic Reflex Test and LDL Test and would not have them at all!!!

I did these tests several times when I was getting treatment for my hyperacusis. I'd say they were necessary to see if I was improving or not, which I was.

DONT DO ANY OF THE FUCKING TESTS.

ESPECIALLY THE UNCOMFORTABLE LOUDNESS LEVEL TEST unless ofc want to potentially ruin your life further, then by all means.

My audiologist would not do the acoustic reflex test on me because I told her I had noise sensitivity. This was before I knew anything about the tests. Doing acoustic reflex test on someone with hyperacusis seems silly to me.

A normal audogram is just fine, no risk there. The LDL they raise the volume slowly till you tell them there is discomfort then they stop the test. The acoustic reflex is probably the loudest of the bunch and the only one I would be hesitant to do.

I did an ABR test and that thing is a real pain. And they didn't even get a good wave I reading so the test is mostly meaningless.

Today is the day. In three hours I will be there. Hopefully I will come here tonight and write that I only took the audiogram test.

I remember I also read other people complaining about the loudness of the acoustic reflex test and the terrible effects it had on their condition... I would just do the audiogram. It will be safe.

I've honestly lost track of the number of audiograms that I've had since February. Maybe seven? I've also had the acoustic reflex test a couple times. None of the tests had any impact on my hearing loss or tinnitus, but they were very helpful in my diagnosis and monitoring.

As some members said, you control how loud the LDL test is. From reading your previous threads, I think the test might be helpful. For the acoustic test, my last doctor told me we could stop whenever I need to. I'm glad I did it because we found something that was not evident in my audiogram.

Honestly, if you're anxious about the tests, you will think they've made your tinnitus worse. Try to go into it with a calm attitude. Good luck!

Personally in hindsight I wouldn't do the LDL test, or the aoustic reflex test. I was given both and I'm sure it didn't help matters.

I went there. Skipped the acoustic reflex test. I had the ldl-test the doctor was really nice. He said we can start from the 0dB and go up. The highest i got was 60 dB.

She said we have to make this test now or next time. I thought the doctor would be mean but she was so nice. I don't think my T has spiked.

Man if the highest you went to was 60dB you have real sensitive ears but it OK don't worry, it gonna get better. But as your mate I gotta say........DONT DO THE ACOUSTIC REFLEX TEST!!! No matter how hot and nice she is, don't let that push you into the test man.. It's real loud I think lol?!!! You can ALWAYS refuse man...! What was the reason she said, why would you have to do the test?

Glad the 2 tests you did went well and your ears are OK :)

Have you had an acoustic reflex test? I have, it was fine. The audiologist said he would stop the test if it was too much. It didn't bother me.

Don't worry, I won't do that test EVER. I will start playing dead or something like that if they say I have to make it. :D And I don't have to make that acoustic reflex test. I meant that I had to make the LDL-test now or some other time...

No I have not.
I was directing my question to the poster who was claiming the test was awful and loud, yet has never taken it.

I've endured far worse medical tests than an acoustic reflex test. If your doctor feels one is truly necessary, ask for their reassurance that they'll stop if it's too uncomfortable. Given you did the LDL test, the audiologist could possibly stop the test before it even reached thresholds you can't withstand.

Did your audiogram show any hearing loss?
