Hi!

Sometimes when I burp or am having hiccup I get a bumping/thumping sound inside my ears. It only occurs in the moment of the hiccup (it's only one bump). Then nothing more. I don't have any pulsating sound that continues after.
It feels like my tympani muscle is contracting while burping?

Is this dangerous or abnormal?

It happens to me too... I think it has to do with the change in pressure of your middle ear due to the burping/hiccup. I don't think it's dangerous unless your burps or hiccups are extraordinarily powerful.

Sounds like middle ear myclonus, which if it is, is not dangerous and common enough. It's just really annoying.
Also you're right, it's the middle ear muscles contracting.

In some more extreme cases it thumps almost continuously.

Ah cool, you get the sensation of build up pressure of air in the middle air but in fast it is you muscles contracting.

It can also affect the air pressure. The tensor tympani is one of four muscles that control the function of the eustacian tube which regulates the pressure in the middle ear.

Ah ok. Today I even got a cracking and thumping sound in my left ear, followed by a bit muffled hearing, during a hiccup. Some pain as well. Is this normal?
The pain is mostly around the ear. Have someone ruptured their eardrum by doing this?
It was not an extraordinarily hard hiccup. Pretty normal.
