Tinnex (Caroverine)

Sorry for bumping these threads but as I said before I'm looking for every possible treatment to try.

Is this treatment available in EU now? How can I reach it?
Calmaspray contains caroverine, you can give it a try. I know a guy from Polish tinnitus forum who claims it soften his T.

I've just recently heard about the drug Caroverine. It's been around a long time apparently. Has anyone heard of it and or used it in the USA? It's primarily used in India (known as Tinnex) & a few European countries. It comes in pill and injection form.

Like all of us, I've seen so many doctors in the US and not ONE has ever even mentioned this medicine. Any thoughts?

Randomised Controlled Clinical Study of Injection Caroverine and Ginkgo Biloba Extract in Cochlear Synaptic Tinnitus

Abstract

Tinnitus, also known as phantom auditory perception, is an annoying symptom and 13–17% of population reports bothersome tinnitus. Cochlear synaptic tinnitus is the most common type. Many treatments have been tried but none is yet considered to be well established. To evaluate effect of Inj.Caroverine and Ginkgo Biloba extract in cochlear synaptic tinnitus in terms of improving tinnitus grading, tinnitus matching and quality of life of patient. It is Randomised controlled study, conducted in department of ENT, on 86 patients, who met inclusion criteria, divided into 4 groups. Gr1—Inj Caroverin, Gr2—Inj Placebo, Gr3—Ginkgo Biloba extract, Gr4—Placebo as extract. A single dose infusion of caroverine immediately improves tinnitus grading and matching and provides immediate relief in reducing severity of tinnitus in 54.54% cases but improvement was not sustained in caroverine group at 3 month and 6 month follow-up after infusion. Ginkgo biloba also is effective in improving tinnitus grading and matching in 31.8% cases and improvement was sustained in ginkgo biloba group even after 3 month of cessation of treatment i.e. at 6 month follow-up. It is suggested that Inj.Caroverine as intravenous infusion should be given in severe cases of tinnitus to reduce its severity immediately and then patient should be put on Tab.Ginkgo biloba for a period of 3 months to provide sustained and long lasting relief. Thus combination therapy of Inj.Caroverin and Tab.Ginkgo Biloba, appropriately tailored to the need of patient will provide better results in greater majority of patients.

@Sironketchup
You said in another thread you were in Bad Arolsen. One doctor told me they gave Caroverine there but I don't know if it's true. So I wanted to ask you. Do they give Caroverine infusions there? I know many people say it does not help, some say it maybe helps a little bit, so I'm curious.

Well, no information about duration of tinnitus, no specific test like TFI or THI.

I wonder what a tinnitus matching improvement is.

P-values are > and not <.

Finally there is no reference (n°21 missing) about the study led in Austria by Ehrenberg, whereas an Austrian clinic told me that its clinical study of caroverine had been withdrawn.

Yet another suspicious hint of the Caroverine mystery:
It seems that only 9 patients (those with mild tinnitus) showed improvement in the treatment group. It's an odd case, as the study appears to have only been conducted in India. Who funded it?

Where are the reports of failed trials from other countries?

Yet another suspicious hint of the Caroverine mystery:
I read the article, and I understand that Caroverine can be effective in treating tinnitus, but they don't know how long it can be used. Is that why you mentioned a "suspicious hint"?

They mention 'standard care' consisting of 'Tab. Cinnarizine 25mg twice daily along with fixed dose combination Cap. B-complex and Ginkgo biloba once daily.' Have you ever heard of this?

I think you need to import Tinnex from India if you don't live in Austria or Switzerland.

@StoneInFocus, I've heard of Cinnarizine being used for tinnitus, though it's not very common. Someone here described it as a "good old drug." I believe it's primarily used for vestibular issues.

There seems to be something questionable about these studies from India and Brazil. Only patients with mild tinnitus showed improvement? That's odd.

I don't think THI is a reliable metric anyway. There is also no placebo group.

I wouldn't take this study seriously.

Sorry for my late reply. Just take a look at my investigation:
