Hi there everyone!

Bit of a weird one here! Basically my T is always super loud at around 3am/4am and I really don't know why! As usual it had woken me at 3am and when I was trying to fall back asleep I was playing with my ear and I put one finger just slightly inside my ear and pulled downwards and my T almost dissapeared! Like for the time time in months I heard almost complete silence! However almost as I soon as i let ago the T returns at it's high volume!

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be? And if this leads to an indication to what might be causing my T?

Idk but that is too crazy!! Did you try it again and did it happen the second or third time you did it?!

Yeah! I can't stop trying it now! Everytime I do it the T seems to reduce significantly in volume! It's great but frustrating at the same time as I can't walk around with my finger in my ear all day haha!

Ahah omg dont mean to laugh but that is just too nuts! But how the hell could that happen?! Its the weird stuff like this that makes T too unpredictable. Maybe if docs pin your ears down you will get some relief lol ;)

Reflexology on the ears may help you.

Do you have TMJ issues? Usually pulling on ears downward releases the jaw

I have something similar when I clench my jaw (maybe not as pronounced as what you are describing); my audiologist said that it has to do with physical manipulation of your eustachian tube and the resulting sound attenuation. In your case the attenuation results in sound mitigation.

That would make sense! Thank you!

If I stick my finger into the bone insdie the ear and press it stops it. It has to be right before the hole where the ear canal is-not on the first bone of the jaw. Just a tiny bit further in.

I read something ages ago that described a weird technique to improve tinnitus by doing an odd combination of ear-tugging and swallowing with the head tilted back, all at the same time.
I think there was more to it, but I can't find it

Sorry to bump an old post but I have this too? I'm going through a spike at the moment where my low-frequency tinnitus is much louder than normal. if I pull on my ear closer to the back of my head, the sound goes away.

if I pull on my ear closer to the back of my head, the sound goes away.

If I pull on my right ear lobe, the tinnitus flares up. No effect when I do it on the left ear. If I massage or work on various points around the top of my right ear, the tinnitus fades. So it appears a lot of my "core t" is in or around my right ear. Will be exploring this further when I start seeing a physical therapist.

Be careful with that.

Probably has to do with the somatic nature of tinnitus in most people
Many tinnitus sufferers seem to be able to modify the tinnitus somatically.
But no one can answer exactly whether somatic damage is actually the cause of tinnitus.:dunno:
