Cause of Tinnitus
acoustic trauma
Hello Friends. I know, this thread is little bit controversial :), but in my opinion, it is also important. So... have you, for example, good friend with Tinnitus, who has some experiences with those drugs? :cool: I have friend with T :cool: and he probably has psychological ED, his tool is not very reliable, cause after acoustic trauma he has not flavour to meet beautiful woman more, because he got strong deppresion. But now, after more than 2 years he will get back his sexual life. He will try some of those drugs, only on beginning... but he is afraid of worsening of T...

:LOL::D

I wouldn't have thought they would be a problem but it apparently might be the case:

Others
Ototoxic effects are also seen with quinine and heavy metals such as mercury and lead.[7] At high doses, aspirin and other salicylates may also cause high-pitch tinnitus and hearing loss in both ears, typically reversible upon discontinuation of the drug.[7] The erectile dysfunction medications Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis have also been reported to cause hearing loss.[14]

FDA Announces Revisions to Labels for Cialis, Levitra and Viagra
Potential risk of sudden hearing loss with ED drugs to be displayed more prominently

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved labeling changes for erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs in the class that includes Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra, to display more prominently the potential risk of sudden hearing loss, and to guide consumers on what to do if they experience sudden problems with their hearing.

In addition, the FDA plans to require the same changes in labeling for the drug Revatio, also a member of this drug class known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Revatio is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). PAH is a serious medical condition in which continuous high blood pressure in arteries of the lungs weakens the heart muscle and often leads to right heart failure and death.

The FDA asked manufacturers of these drugs to revise product labeling after a very small number of patients taking the PDE5 inhibitors reported sudden hearing loss, sometimes accompanied by ringing in the ears and dizziness.

"Because some level of hearing loss is usually associated with the aging process, patients on these drugs may not think to talk to their doctor about it," said Janet Woodcock, M.D., FDA's deputy commissioner for scientific and medical programs, chief medical officer, and acting director of its Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

Patients taking Cialis, Levitra, or Viagra who experience sudden hearing loss should immediately stop taking the drug and seek prompt medical attention. Those using Revatio should continue taking their medication but should contact their health care provider for further evaluation. Because Revatio is used to treat a potentially life-threatening condition, the FDA does not recommend patients abruptly stop taking this medication but should consult their physician if they experience sudden problems with their hearing.

A case report in the April 2007 issue of the Journal of Laryngology & Otology involving sudden hearing loss in a man taking Viagra prompted the FDA to search the FDA's Adverse Events Reporting System for instances of hearing loss and PDE5 inhibitors. The FDA found a total of 29 postmarketing reports of sudden hearing loss, both with and without accompanying ringing in the ears, vertigo, or dizziness. In most of the cases, the hearing loss involved one ear. The hearing loss was either a partial or complete loss of usual hearing. In approximately one third of cases, the event was temporary. In the remainder, the hearing loss was ongoing at the time of the report or the final outcome was not described.

Although no causal relationship has been demonstrated, the strong relationship between the use of these drugs and sudden hearing loss in these cases warrants revisions to the product labeling for this drug class.

Product Web sites, marketing and educational materials, and advertisements for PDE5 inhibitors will reflect the revised product labeling. The label revisions can be viewed at: www.fda.gov/cder/drug/DrugSafety/DrugIndex.htm.

I watched a commercial just the other day for Viagra, one of the side effects mentioned was hearing loss. He could be making things a whole lot worse.

Who wants to walk around with a artificial boner depressed anyway?

I read, than ED drugs can cause ear problems due to vasodilatation - if thiny blood vessels in inner ear arent in good condition, they can break. It is not due to chemical ototoxic, but physical... or not? (Increasing NO in blood)

Anyway, they tested ED drug as a treatment for T. Unsuccesfully.

Take the drugs...it not a big deal if his T get worse..

I didn't know, this but apparently this is true....

"The extent of a person's suffering with tinnitus has no relation to how loud it is, how soft it is, its pitch, it's so-called reactivity, its lack of predictability, or whether it is continuous or discontinuous"

This is a quote from here2help....This is guy is backed by dr nagler as knowing more than 99% of experts. So don't worry about T getting worse.

Dangerous advise? I don't know...the volume of your T doesn't matter according to here2help....And if dr nagler says he knows more than 99 percent of experts...well, you make the call!

Appolgies to bring back an old thread. But I thought I would put this into perspective. More details are found here pertaining to the FDA warming - https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drugsafet...ormationforpatientsandproviders/ucm124841.htm

Clinical Trials
- A total of 12 people had hearing loss from 59,000 people in clinical trials of Viagra, Cilias, and Levitra;
- 0.020% is not statically significant.

Post Marketing
- A total of 29 people have reported hearing loss from Viagra, Cilias, and Levitra;
- 7 of the cases was temporary and a few of the cases it was not known if the hearing loss continued (eg. was not reported back);
- Included men up to the age of 85 - age is the strongest cause of hearing loss!
- I could not find the exact stats, but old data suggested that ED drug sales are over $5 billion in the US alone. This would represent millions and millions of users of these medications. 29 "reported cases" from millions of users.. Again, statically insignificant.

- We know nothing at all about the circumstances of the patients reporting hearing loss. Eg. Did they take Viagra and goto a concert? What other medications where they taking? Where majority of them over 70 years old? The list of unknowns continues.
- 60,000 people have sudden hearing loss in America alone from a variety of things (source: hear-it.org).

The FDA was correct to issue a warning, but there is no causal link proven in regards to ED drugs hearing loss and tinnitus.

amen....my tool works but i fear the day it doesnt smh lol any natural ways to go about this lol

I took cialis 5mg daily for BPH. Cialis was the only drug that worked after trying everything else. However, after less than a month of use, my tinnitus volume got way worse. Quit taking the cialis. Unfortunately, tinnitus volume did not decrease back to prior volume. Really sucks, it was really nice to pee like a 30 year old again. Also was great for its normally intended use...;)

Volume doesn't matter? That's a ludicrous statement. Of course volume matters. I used to be able to drown out my tinnitus with a fan when I went to bed. Not anymore, and that's with a large fan RIGHT next to my bed. It went from manageable to maddening.

Have you tried taking Proscar?
No, thought I had tried everything.
Never had a doctor mention it.
After looking it up, has some pretty bad possible side effects. Cialis is pretty much the first med I've ever really had any side effects from. Really sucks, cause it did wonders for my BPH. The real bummer is after stopping it, the tinnitus hasn't gotten any better. Don't know if I would have had the side effect if I didn't have tinnitus already.

So you have tinnitus and also suffer from ED and the solution is to not have a sex life in hopes that your tinnitus doesn't increase...left with tinnitus and no sex, sounds great.

So this article talks about the opposite phenomenon, the risk of getting ED if you are a tinnitus sufferer. It is a pity the abstract does not mention the possible treatments of tinnitus which might trigger ED.

Association of Erectile Dysfunction with a Newly Diagnosed Tinnitus: A Nationwide Population-based Study

Objectives: Given some of the shared organic and psychogenic pathophysiologic mechanisms in tinnitus and erectile dysfunction (ED), we hypothesized that newly-onset tinnitus may be associated with ED. This study aims to explore the relationship between these two medical conditions using a nationwide population-based database.

Design: A case-control study

Setting: Taiwan Participants: We retrieved data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Dataset, 19,329 patients with ED and 19,329 propensity score-matched patients without ED (controls). Main outcome measures: The diagnosis date was the date of the first ED claim for ED, which was the index date for cases. We defined the date of the control patient's first utilization of ambulatory care during the index year of their matched case as their index date. Tinnitus during a one-year period before the index date was the exposure of interest.

Results: Of the 38,658 sampled patients, 1247 (3.23%) had been diagnosed with tinnitus within the year prior to the index date, 792 (4.10%) among cases and 455 (2.35%) among controls. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that cases were more likely to have had a prior tinnitus diagnosis compared to controls (OR=1.772; 95% CI=1.577-1.992; p<0.001). After adjusting for co-morbid medical disorders and social economic factors, cases were more likely than controls to have a prior diagnosis of tinnitus (OR=1.779, 95% CI=1.582-2.001, p<0.001).

Conclusions: This investigation detected a novel association between ED and newly-onset tinnitus. Physicians should be alert to the possibility of developing ED in patients treated for tinnitus.
