Hi,

My name is Sam, and I have been experiencing tinnitus for around 7 months now. It all started after I took a trip to the Dominican Republic. I initially only had this feeling of being drunk and derealized. But then I also started to get really fatigued and was hit with tinnitus in both ears. My ears also spasm now when I hear loud sounds or on the phone.

Does anybody have thoughts on what could be going on? I got my hearing tested, and it is normal. I'm pretty sure I have some underlying condition or infection that is causing all this. Has anyone dealt with something similar and figure it out?

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

I am close to 6 months in with tinnitus myself. Have you seen an ENT (not that I think they are so helpful in my experience)... I have seen 2. Your symptoms do not sound like mine as I don't experience dizziness. That sounds a little like Meniere's disease (you might google that and see what you think. I would suggest searching through the search bar in this site your symptoms and see if you get some threads to explore. You may find some very helpful info as well as many, many helpful sufferers who are more than willing to help any way they can.

I've had tinnitus for nearly 5 years. Hearing is prefect, was just tested again last week. I got tinnitus from Lyme. I am dizzy 24/7 along with a bunch of other symptoms.

I did not figure out anything, but did you fly there and did your symptoms start after the flight? Do they enhance during any kind of straining or weather changes? Or any kind of nose blowing activity?

Yeah the issue started right after my flight back. And I haven't noticed any connection to weather or nose-blowing.
I'm so fatigued. I pretty much can't sleep less than 12 hours.

How did you figure out you had Lyme? I'm concerned that it could be my issue as well.

Well, except starting feeling spacey/drunk after a flight I do not see any other connection to a condition called perilymph fistula, but you can look it up anyway.

Hi @Sammy D -- I agree with you that it sounds like some kind of underlying condition or infection. And I think there's a high probability it's in your gut. I've looked into these kinds of health issues for years, and have come up with a number of philosophies on how to best combat various kinds of stealth and/or focal infections.

Much of what I've come to believe is illustrated extremely well in the following 20-minute video. It's very informative and educational, very well done, and even somewhat entertaining. I would highly recommend you give it a thoughtful view.

All the Best!

PJ. I am curious how your Lyme's was diagnosed. I had a serious tick bite on my ear in 2016. It was bad, drained a lot. Anyway, I took meds during that time for like 3 weeks seems like doxicycline or something like that. U also tested positive for Lyme's but when blood was sent to another lab (seemed like a procedure after locally testing positive) it was showing negative. I have always been concerned about that real bad reaction to the bite and that first positive reading. Now all this tinnitus and other symptoms prior to. Just wondering?
