Tinnitus and Tooth Abscess

Has anyone experienced a relationship between tinnitus and a tooth abscess. Turns out I have a pretty bad infection in a tooth close to my ear, and doctor has suggested an extraction as it cannot be saved.

Do you all think removing the infected tooth will help?

I know. I am going to get the tooth extracted. Since there is significant bone loss, there will be a bone graft. I figured the health risks far outweigh the worry regarding worsening of tinnitus. Plan to do an implant a few months later.

Hi, everyone. Just wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on this.

My tinnitus started with an external ear infection causing eardrum inflammation. Per ENT, ears are fully healed but the tinnitus remains. Now I learnt that I have a bad abscessed tooth on the upper jaw close to the ear with the tinnitus. Has anyone experienced a relationship between tinnitus and a tooth abscess? Do you all think removing the infected tooth will help?

Not the wisdom tooth; it's the molar on the upper jaw.

OK...upper molars are safer to remove because they don't run in proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve through the jaw. This nerve is sometimes referred to more generically as the mental nerve. Lower wisdom teeth and no.2 molars can be problematic for removing as an adult or older...all depending on position. Upper molars by contrast are less problematic for extraction. Abscess can be problematic for overall health and even heart health mysterygal so I hope you seek medical attention to addressing your dental condition....for tinnitus perhaps....and moreover your overall health.

Abscess can be problematic for overall health and even heart health mysterygal so I hope you seek medical attention to addressing your dental condition....for tinnitus perhaps....and moreover your overall health.

Thanks, @Foncky. The fact that the implant process is so tediously long and painful makes me nervous. I know it will all be good at the end. The tinnitus is probably something I am worried about the most. Glad to know you had no problems after the implant.

I have a molar (not the wisdom tooth) infected because of a cracked filling. I took an Amoxicillin Monday and my tinnitus went up and my brain was tingling for a bit. At first I thought that this was due to some other medication I was taking. To rule it out though I didn't take the Amoxicillin yesterday and no brain tingling or spike in T. I took it again tonight and my T seems to have gone up and the brain tingling is back. Anyone else have this?

My T started because of an abscess tooth 5 weeks ago - or something related to it. The dentist - not mine - put me on 600mg ibuprofen, which was a mistake because - ototoxicity aside - I have hypertension and this spiked the hell out of my blood pressure. However, that sort of ototox is reversible is that's what it is. My docs think it's actually just stress - from the pain and inflammation and meds altogether - and now I'm depressed, anxious and still really tight all over - and they believe I may have a sphenoid sinus infection which, again, could be the cause. The blood pressure spikes - over 200 - could also have collapsed a transverse nerve, or created a fistula, or broke a bunch of capillaries. So there's a million reasons I may have T right now, but at least it's not from physical damage to my ears so the prognosis is good it'll will clear up on it's own as soon as I can calm my brain down, let it heal, and get some real rest.

My advice - and what I wish I had done? Just cowboy up and get it yanked. They can't numb a hot tooth but the only way to stop that is antibiotics and painkillers - both ototoxic. Just cowboy up and get the damn thing pulled. It'll only take 2 seconds anyway than the pain is over and the healing can begin. I'm off to see the oral surgeon next week to see if my problem may be stemming from this.
