I've had tinnitus for about 2 months now, unilateral (left side) with no known cause that can be found by 2 ENTs. It's a high-pitched hissing noise.

The last couple weeks I've found that on the days I don't get good sleep the night before (like when I go to bed at midnight and have to get up for work at 5:30am) the tinnitus is actually reduced.

Then on days where I got 8-10 hours of sleep the night before it's worse.

Anyone else ever experience this or have an idea why this is??

Could it be sinus related perhaps? The longer you lie in bed the more blocked your sinuses get, which makes the tinnitus more obvious? Or maybe the position of your neck, or maybe you are grinding your teeth when you sleep longer/deeper.

Yes!! I have quite often and actually wonder why this happens? You'd think that it would be worse with less sleep!! x

Hi, I have strangely experienced this from time to time too. I have no clue why, might be random... But if I have bad sleep over time, this will certainly affect mood, stress levels and tinnitus + hyperacusis.

Honestly it could possibly be the teeth thing, that makes sense. I've been looking into TMJ being a possible cause for the tinnitus, because it's only in my left ear and my jaw pops out on that side when I open my mouth wide. I have an evaluation with a TMJ specialist scheduled but unfortunately it's not until January.
