Cause of Tinnitus
Neomycin otic suspension
I've had tinnitus for 3 years now caused by a prescribed otic suspension of Neomycin with Polymixin B Sulfates and Hydrocortisone. An ENT prescribed it to me when I was having an episode of vertigo which he tried to fix in his office by a motion maneuver but actually made it worse and made me screen bloody murder. I have just recently gone to another ENT for relief of my tinnitus because although it's been annoying it has only recently become more than annoying. To find out that I have to live with this is heart breaking and depressing. I used to only hear it in quiet times but now I hear it even over conversation. I'm angry and also feeling hopeless.

Same story here.. I believe Neomycin ear drop induced T is the most terrible type. I feel what you are going through.
May I ask where you are located?Apparently, neomycin ear drops are too commonly prescribed in NZ and Australia.

This just happened to me. I had an ear infection & doc prescribed these ear drops. The following morning my ear had "closed" & I had tinnitus. My balance is so bad that I cannot drive my car. Going grocery shopping is very hard. I also have a twitching in my cheek. I'm so scared that this is permanent! I just found out that the oral antibiotic also causes this. ...so I was on two medicines that are octotoxic. How can they deafen me and get away with it?

Did you have a perforation when you used the drops? Has your balance been affected? How loud is your tinnitus?

Hello
My husband is now suffering from T as well after using same drops. While researching about tinnitus and the neomycin poly HC drops, I came accross this forum. The ENT doctor said the T is not from the drops. But based on your experience, it seems this otic solution is really causing T. What do you think?
Appreciate your response.

Hello Tuneout,

Thanks for the article you shared. Do you personally believe the Neomycin is causing ringing in the ears?

I also have tinnitus as a result of ear spray Otomize which contains Neomycin.

My ENT specialist says it's not possible without a perforation but it came on immediately on using the spray!

This is how mine started. 4 months ago I accidentally went too far with a q-tip and caused a little rupture in my left eardrum. I went to a fast doctor center and was seen by a practitioner who said I didn't have a hole in my eardrum, despite all the symptoms. I was suffering with bad psoriasis in my ears at the time. I think that helped him miss the rupture somehow. He prescribed me those Neomycin ear drops and said to follow up with my regular doctor.

10 days later with a worsening condition, and an empty bottle of Neomycin ear drops, I went to see my regular doctor. She looks in my ear and sees a small hole that the earlier practitioner missed.

Long story short, I find out I'm basically deaf in my left ear now, besides the wind tunnel that moved in my ear.

I went from no hearing loss that I could tell for 42 years, to practically deaf in 1 ear overnight.

I'm only on month 4 of this and I'm still so angry and annoyed.
