Tinnitus Caused by Wax Induced Hearing Loss?

Cause of Tinnitus
Loud noise? Headphones?
Could wax gradually accumulating in my left ear have caused the gradual increase in tinnitus that I've experienced over the last few months?

One week after wax removal, I had a minimal hearing test at a walk in clinic - testing three tones across the mid range. I was intrigued that the highest tone sounded MUCH louder in my left ear than my right ear. (This was also the tone closest to my tinnitus tone.)

Could it be that wax totally blocking my left ear meant that the high mid-range was hardly heard? Could the brain have turned up the "gain" on the high mid-range causing a substantial increase in tinnitus? Might the brain (eventually) turn down the gain and the tinnitus reduce? If so, how long might that take? Anything that might train my brain to reduce the gain? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Others might have a more in depth answer but I think what you're asking is certainly possible. I would feel good about your prognosis.
