Tinnitus Down to 1/10 — Eating 8 Bananas a Day

@DavidTyl You mention that your tinnitus before this was reactive, intrusive, constantly changing tones, beeps and zaps. Now - near practical silence 1/10 after having tinnitus for over three years. What number do you think your tinnitus was before starting to eat bananas?

There's studies of tinnitus participants who eat bananas, maintained the optimum level of potassium to preserve hearing. These studies also stated that eating bananas did not lower tinnitus hearing loss tinnitus. I recommended eating potatoes before because studies have discussed that potassium and magnesium may help preserve hearing in a controlled environment. Magnesium may also help a bit or temporary with somatic physical tinnitus. Bananas do contain some magnesium.

Hi Greg, I have had tinnitus since 2017. It was not too bad initially, but in the last 9 months it has basically manifested into what I mentioned, changing tones, beeps etc. Everyday was different and I tried many things to change it to no avail. Before now, it was fluctuating between a 6-9/10 regularly. I am just glad I have to no longer mask sleeping and have heard silence again. I am still pinching myself somewhat.

I hope you get there too my friend!

Alert: -- I told my wife about this thread, and the first thing she said is that bananas can cause constipation! o_O
Hi Lane, I was worried about this too. From reading it seems that unripe bananas cause this, not the ripe ones, and I am eating ripe ones thankfully. So far I have been ok.

FYI, coconut water is high in potassium (and sugar, though).

Just did my first day. 8 bananas is A LOT.

I'll probably be buying milk (replacement because lactose intolerant) and mixing some of the bananas into a shake to make it less banana-y :D (I don't want to destroy the vitamins, fibers, nutrients though).

Hi Ben, you actually raise a good point here and I would like to add that I am in no way endorsing people to eat 8 bananas like me. If you wish to then that is also fine but as you know everybody has different tolerance levels etc.

However, what I would say is if you are thinking of trying it, maybe start with a couple of bananas and work your way up to a point that you are comfortable. Maybe some people will reach some benefits at 3/4 bananas? Who knows.

If it helps one person then that is a success in my eyes. Don't overdo it basically.

Remember, I found this out by accident. Also think of those monkeys that may wake up in the trees and find their bunch of 8 bananas missing and having to say to themselves: "Damn, I was looking forward to those with my coffee and cigarette today". Ok, so maybe not the last part, but you get my drift :)

I get what you are saying but I'm basically pretty much done with being cautious, especially when there is really no harm in trying the proposed banana-regime.

Current state of my monkey brain:

Man says his tinnitus is gone after 3 years by eating 8 bananas, I'm not asking questions. I'm eating 8 bananas.

Man says his tinnitus is gone after 3 years by listening to his mother in law's nagging for 15 hours straight, I'm not asking questions. I call (corona) the mother in law.

Only green for me.
@kingsfan -- Lots of health benefits from eating green bananas...

Health Benefits of Green Bananas | Livestrong.com

One benefit I'm aware of is improved gut health...

Green Bananas For Gut Health
There is also research on the benefits of green bananas for gut health. Much of the starch in green bananas is in the form of resistant starch. Resistant starch also functions as prebiotic fiber. It's a special type of starch that resists digestion in your stomach.

Instead, it passes into your large intestine, where it serves as prebiotic "food" for the healthy probiotic bacteria that live in your colon. Eating more foods that are rich in prebiotic fiber can help your microbiome to thrive, and that can lead to better gut health.

Call me a wimp, I'm the exact opposite of a picky eater but to me bananas are literally one of the most disgusting foods on the planet. I couldn't even last through one banana without getting physically sick and wanting to throw up... Is this an allergy? I swear years ago, I loved bananas. Oh well...

I will try this but with avocados instead. Those have a lot of potassium too.

It may be placebo but things did seem quieter while on bananas / potassium for two days. The tinnitus is still there, just less intrusive.

Very inconclusive still. Certainly not silence.

Why not get a Comprehensive Vitamin Panel and a Comprehensive Health Test Panel with CBC before thinking that potassium would be a sole key in lowering tinnitus which would be a very far shot.

Up to 80% with tinnitus could use a little more Vitamin D, but magnesium taken 150 mg 3 times daily may make a difference.

I used to take all of that stuff daily. Never made a difference. I don't believe in supplements for tinnitus. But if it works for you, more power to you.

I'm laughing out loud at your banana comments.

Have a great day!

From what I said is much in agreement. Just saying to get a vitamin panel to see if one lacks any vitamins.

Some researchers support the use of Glycinate magnesium for tinnitus 3 times a day - 1/3 tablet at a time. Also often mentioned is to take magnesium one hour before being in a possible noisy place, such as at the dentist.

I just had a blood test, everything was normal except sodium was still very high considering I'm on a diuretic (almost max of normal range).

Free B12 was "higher" than normal range by 30%.

Potassium supplements without bananas seem to help the thumping.

7th day today, 52 bananas in (6x8 + 4 this morning already).

Shop owner where I get the bananas is about to call animal protection because I'm sure he thinks I have an illegally obtained monkey in my house.

I will do 4 more today and then stop for a while to compare.

Keep in mind I'm also:
1) on Deanxit, which I already declared to be a miracle drug (mostly anti anxiety > resulting in less tinnitus focus > resulting in less tinnitus; simple as that).
2) following neurostimulation therapy at Brai3n institute in Belgium. I'm on my 10th session. This may also be having some effect.

Since my onset 12 months ago, the last 4 weeks have been the best so far. There are even a couple of stretches of time during my day where I m not even thinking about my tinnitus, which did not happen before that. It was very much in the front of my head for the last 11 months.

The banana overdose SEEMS to (very careful) have pushed it even further back. SEEMS to.

I will need a longer period and as I said, a period without it to feel/see/hear the difference with and without bananas.

That said - 8 bananas a day is A LOT. I've got bananas coming out my ears.

Even how I'm doing them (I create lactose free milkshakes), it's 6 big full glasses of thick bananashake.
