Cause of Tinnitus
Ear Wax Accumulation
Hello,

I had ear wax blockage in my right ear about 2 weeks ago and started hearing continuous hissing sound in my ear when I tried to flush out the ear wax using ear wax cleaning kit from Walgreens.

I went to ENT specialist last week and he removed the accumulated ear wax and the tinnitus went down by 70%. Now I can barely hear the hissing sound during daytime unless I make an effort to listen to it.

The only problem that I am facing is at night when tinnitus just triggers when I am in deep sleep and wakes me up. It is as strong as it was prior to having ear wax cleaned up.

Any suggestions in avoiding tinnitus triggering during the sleep?

I get the problem of getting woken up by it too. There's not a huge amount you can do other than to follow all the basic sleep hygiene rules such as no alcohol, caffeine or napping in the day and do exercise to make yourself feel tired at night.

Try to stop deliberately listening out for your tinnitus as you will make it become louder and more intrusive. At night use sound enrichment instead of sleeping in a quiet room. If you listen to music through headphones I advise you not to even at low volume. Click on the link below and read my article: Tinnitus, A Personal View. Try to read it in full and don't skim through it.

Best of luck
