Tinnitus Expectations

I'm not an expert, but I heard that pink noise is better for H.
I heard some peolel use plastic dishes knifes forks etc.
but I think that way you never get used to silverware
just like overdoing wearing plugs.

Hence again, I'm not an expert!

DutchGuy I knew nothing about T until I got it! the one thing I know is that you must ask for support from others because you are so NOT alone with this condition. People are getting better and managing. It is fine to have a bad day and hope the next is better. 6 months later I am managing much better.

So I do have to wear ear plugs iwhen going into outside traffic?
I'm glad Before H and T I was not outgoing that much, no concerts or clubs.

i deid vist friends and fam though.

Yes I need to socialize before I lose everyone I know.

Thanks Davo and Lynn!

Maybe they can make a page on this site with do's and dont's?

I hear you. And I still keep the kitchen door closed. Important not to avoid his mates though yeah? Loneliness dont help

If he can handle conversations. That is why it would be important to have his ldls measured. I could not in the beginning and again now. It is a very lonely condition and I suppose that is where my feelings come from regarding it being worse than T..at least for Cat 4 H.

If traffic seems to make you worse, then yes. It has always ramped up my T. I also have reactive T...another fun symptom!

Visit friends. Bring plugs. See how it goes. Make them aware of your ears. Good luck!

I have a bit of a fear of benzos because they can be addictive. When do find they help?

They used to lower my T, thus helping my H. Sounds didn't bother me as much. Now it does nothing and I either have to up the dosage further to see if I will benefit or simply taper off.. Ironically I just upped my dosage!!...Regardless I will not go med free. I will most likely get on an antidepressant for 6 weeks then taper, or else try amytriptyline.

Check out "musician earplugs" they are designed to set a limit on the amount of sound that comes through.

Hey yeah! My T takes a spike after some loudness too - no joy there in reactive T. Still I have improvements over time - seriously. Strength and hope guys.

The benzo ativan took away a lot of fear only the 1st week I used them.
I was socializing like I was never before. I was chanfing everything in my house.
I Could not sit still. There were no barriers with what I was doing.
I heard tapering off it is worse than tapering off heroin!
I wished I never took them, it is the one of the strongest working benzo.

Never took benzos before in my life.

Again I talk from my own experience.

Everyone's T is different so what is a do for one may not work for another. trail and error with a bit of education behind it. I really avoid becoming noise phobic again - phobic of it (!) But Dutchy - seek help when you need it please. People like Lynn here are experienced and informed and the majority of forum users are seeking answers. Youll get through it mate.

Prior to this setback I had NO, I mean ZERO phobia towards noise..just putting that out there..I improved so much I forgotten how bad it was.

But it shows you that it can go from seemingly hopeless to a non issue..I was quite bad before..I had a good long stretch of healing and then WHAM! here I am again.

Haven't seen my GP or an audiologist yet. This week I will contact my GP tough.
At the start of my H I just didn't what to do.

About visiting friends, do you ask them not to talk loud?
I'm scared people won't understand.

Ok. you need to see your GP and they should refer you to an ENT to get this really checked out yeah?

I so know what you mean about people not understanding it - but these are people who do!

Please dont delay?

Glad I'm not that outgoing that much anymore last years, even before T and H struck.
I do well being on my own actually with my hobbies.
I think I might have symptoms of what they HSP.
A hypersensitive person.

I read a lot of with OCD having T and H too.

Last years i've been wondering that.
I'm not doing well in large groups. I rather see one or few friends.
Btw I think the world is crazy, not me lol.

Lynn again I hope you get back to better LDL's.

Thanks a lot guys!

I have been described as "slightly crazy". I kinda like that.

I realise that my T will have peaks and troughs - especially when I am anxious or angry. Bit of a sh*t really.

Davo I won't delay, I will make an appointment.
Since our condition H is rare. instead of "learn to live with it"
I will demand him to make appointment with
an ENT, the ENT can maybe refer me to an audiolog.

There's one audiolog in my city who actually treats peopel with H!
I álso cant afford noise genarators so i might buy an mp3 player that can play wav-files since that's better sound quality than mp3.

My GP is not that much of a "referrer", yeah he might refer me to a shrink only lol.
if he dont get it than I might go to another GP.

I do sound therapy 24/7, pink noise, can't wear ear protection makes things worse. The other day it was terrible just motorized traffic tires on a wet road, my own voice is too loud, let alone concerts forget that, tv is bad sometimes. Anxiety is low, I get to sleep, but wake and pop a sleeping pill to get me through the rest of the night. @LarryOT I feel for you that you do not have support from your wife, that's awful!

I wish my anxiety was low, also has to do with alack of sleep I think.
May I ask wat kind of sleeping you use Blair14 ?
I'm little scared about the benzos. Do you sound therapy with headphones on?

DEMAND a referral! You do need to see an ENT and Audiologist.

no sound therapy with headphones on, offset headphones when I am in a quiet place.
I would like to get some instructions how to use pink noise on my own.

What do you exactly mean by offset?
Can it be combined while listening some soft music?
Do you raise the volume slightly, like every week?
Do you use the pink noise therapy with or without the help of a therapist?

Yep DEMAND a referral - you are entitled to see a specialist. Please dont delay. Re: slightly crazy - hey man at least I know it and revel in it - better to be slightly crazy than driven crazy I say.
