Tinnitus from Ear Irrigation

Hello.

I'm new here. I've had tinnitus for a week now. 7 days and a few hours

It all started with me being a bit too aggressive with an cotton stick, which resulted in an earwax plug.
I went to the doctor the same day and I got an ear irrigation (they didn't tell me to soften the wax up first...), I had tried it before the same way, it was real fast and no side effects...

The doctor was pretty harsh with the device and I got sprayed for like 3 mins in each ear. There was no pain, no dizziness and the wax plug just fell out.

Same night when I was going to sleep I noticed a ringing, it has gotten gradually worse to a point were I'm having a hard time focusing on conversations and I'm starting to feel a pain and "earfullness" sensation.

I went to the doctor a few days ago, when it started to get bad, day 4 I think.
He said my ear was completely clear and the eardrum looked good.

I'm trying to be hopeful. Have any of you seen/heard something similar?

I'm wondering what my chances of full recovery is, or at least some recovery?

I've read about some guys having tinnitus for a few days/weeks and then it just suddenly goes away overnight-ish.

It wasn't really loud imo.
I was kinda overwelmed by the feeling of water rushing into/out of my ear.
I've heard much louder sounds.

Ear wax removal via syringing has a chance of going wrong and damaging hearing - which can result in tinnitus sometimes.

Tinnitus is almost always connected to hearing defecits, the root problem is a hearing deficit, tinnitus is a symptom of it.

Sadly, I suffered the same fate after ear irrigation but the good news is, I have gotten better after a year and a half. the tinnitus is still bothering me at times but a lot less than let's say a year ago. I am hoping to habituate real soon...

I'm not experiencing hearing loss. Nothing has been wrong with my hearing both before and after the irrigation.

My hearing has not gotten worse at all, it kinda gives me some hope - most people with tinnitus experiences hearing loss from what I've read.

The tinnitus is just driving me crazy, the volume of this stuff is real loud and I'm having a hard time ignoring it.

I can only sleep if I have music playing...

Thanks Winston, a year and a half seems like a long time to walk around with this... But I guess I gotta get used to it.

I can see from the study that the participants of the study almost all recovered, even though it took a very long time.

I am on the same boat. For me it seems to be getting better but nowhere near recovering.

But don't lose faith Mike, our ears are very sensitive and recovers very slowly. Since you have no real hearing loss, you have a higher chance of recovery than someone like me.

Thanks. I'm doing my very best to stay hopeful.
I got anxiety disorder and I'm in a really rough period, this is the last thing I needed in my life atm.
I'm sure the anxiety and stress is making it all much worse.
Going to an ear specialist the 30th, I'm desperately hoping that I have to cancel that session because the tinnitus is gone.

I'm also a lot more sensitive to noise.
Could this be a ruptured eardrum or an ear infection maybe?

I also have this, it's probably hyperacusis. For me it wasn't due to an ear infection or a ruptured eardrum. It's just that when your ears are hurt, they tend to feel like they have lost that layer of protection and gets very sensitive.

Acute tinnitus seems to go away real often and it happens spontaneously.

It gets chronic after 3-6 months right?
I'm young, healthy and I exercise a lot.
Praying that some day in the near future I'll wake up and not even notice the sound is gone

Hi Mikkra, have you had any luck yet?

Was it a spray bottle type of device that was used on your ear? Something similar happened to me with a spray bottle that had a small tube that inserts in your ear and "flushes" it. Now I've had ringing in my ear for 2 weeks.

You can have hearing loss without noticing it. In the very high frequencies or obsessive background noise.

Do noises cause pain/discomfort or do they sound too loud?

This is a sign of hearing damage.

Hi Mikkra, I realize it has been over a year since you posted about your tinnitus following ear irrigation. How are you doing now? I had a similar experience about two months ago. Some days the tinnitus is better than others, but it is a constant problem at night and very difficult to mask.
