Tinnitus from Jaw Clenching?

I was wondering if anyone out there was thinking that their tinnitus was due to jaw clenching. If so is there hope of recovery or was permanent damage done to nerves or whatever?

I was clenching my jaw quite a bit but now make an effort to relax this just in case this was part of the problem. Hyperacusis is also present.

I do find it hard to relax my jaw because of this awful noise in my head.

Anyone else with the same problem?

@cj5suzy,
I would see your dentist or Maxillofacial specialist to make you a mouth guard to keep the pressure off your jaw joint at night.

love glynis

I will. Thank you for your reply. If any thing even remotely helps! I dont feel like im living any more only existing.

I have seen this Dr. and got an appliance for sleep apnea and TMJ. I keep forgetting to wear it at night. It would be worth a try to see someone that is a specialist. I should use mine for sleep apnea alone and it's a plus if it helps for clenching, TMJD, and tinnitus.

Unfortunately I lost 2 new appliances last year so I have to use an old one for now. I can get a new CPAP too if I want to go that route. ENT's say my T is caused by HF hearing loss but different things could contribute to it I suppose.

I was wondering if jaw clenching is the culprit in tinnitus and hypercussis will it ever go away or are we forever doomed to live like this.

Not much choice but to stay positive and do what you can for now. I know it can be very hard on your mental state of mind.

Boy is it! I find myself saying things like I hate my head. Stupid head. Why me? What did I do to deserve this? I think when it comes to tinnitus ive got the best of it . Super loud high pitched tone in both ears plus ear fullness. Multiple different tones in both ears going off in different directions. Hypercussis. Its hard to watch tv as some voices sound glassy and irritating . I guess when i do something i do it right!

My T was supposedly caused by clenching plus bad orthodontics. The combination jammed my jaw up into its sockets, which are near the inner ears, causing T (so the theory goes).

Over 2.5 years I have done bite plates at night plus 18 months of orthodontics to reset my bite relieve the stress from my jaw jamming into their sockets. The T has improved from a 7/10 to now a 2/10 (with spikes up to 3 now and then and a few quiet days of 1, but never 0). Although this is a big improvement and I have more or less acclimated, it is still annoying at times and it is doubtful I will get to a full 0 ever.
