Back in January 2020 I got a hard slap in the face (not deserved!). I didn't have any symptoms other than facial bruising for the first couple days. Then on the third day I got very loud tone in both ears along with dizziness, headache and other concussion symptoms. After a couple of weeks of thinking it would "just go away" I went to urgent care and was given Prednisone. That reduced the volume of the tone from a 10 to an 7 almost immediately. Realizing at that point that inflammation was a big factor I started a rigid anti-inflammatory diet along with Curcumin and Omega-3 supplements. After about 3months I was finally able to get into an ENT who did a hearing test and said everything was normal and that I had cochlear distention due to the trauma. He put me on another round of Prednisone which brought the tone down from a 7 to a 4. Also, he said it could take 6 months a year to heal. At around 5 months the tone switched to a loud hiss. I'm now at 7 months into it and the loud hiss has reduced to a medium hiss. I'm still on the strict anti-inflammatory diet and Magnesium Malate is the only thing that seems to help slightly reduce the volume of the hiss.
I'm hoping to hear from others on the forum that have experienced a slap or hit to the face and to know if after a year their tinnitus was completely resolved or not. The doctors tell me that as long as I'm seeing a reduction in volume month to month that I should expect things to continue to improve. Hope others can share their results/experiences.
