Cause of Tinnitus
Stress I think
Hello! I have had tinnitus since March 1st which I believe was caused by high stress and anxiety in my life. I did go to an ENT and they said my hearing is fine.

The ENT suggested to try Prednisone, but I didn't fill the prescription yet. Should I try that?

This is causing constant anxiety and I had to go on .5 mg Ativan which is not suppressing my anxiety at all, which may then make the tinnitus worse.

I do take Magnesium, Turmeric, B12, D supplements.

Is there hope that this will go away one day? Does stress induced have a chance to go away? What can I do to suppress this anxiety?

It is so loud that I think about it 24/7. This is just a vicious cycle.

I think I will request an MRI just in case. Thank you in advance.

I was told the exact same thing. I am a long time sufferer of anxiety, so it could have been caused by the million medicines they made me try over the past 20 years as well.

Have you been on anxiety medicine? You might want to give it a shot to reduce your anxiety so you can cope with the tinnitus better.

Be aware though usually people that have adverse affects to certain medications will post their experiences. For the most part positive experiences are usually not posted on the web. Just my opinion though.

I would stay away from Wellbutrin. The seems to have a lot of negative posts. More than others.

Get an MRI to rule out any major issues.

Maybe wait for a more experienced tinnitus sufferer to reply but I believe Prednisone might have a chance of increasing anxiety. Or just use search tab. There are many conversations about it.

Yeah, Prednisone is a pretty big gamble if the tinnitus isn't noise-induced or from an immune reaction. Especially if stress brought it on.

Prednisone is basically stress in tablet form.

If the tinnitus is unilateral, things might be different.

Bilateral or "back of your head" I think qualifies as something more central auditory. No suggestions on that.

No use taking Prednisone - you need to work on reducing stress and the tinnitus will go away.

Thank you. I was put on Zoloft today and am super nervous about it, but my blood pressure has been too high. I need to get a grip on this anxiety... Thanks everyone.

So from the best that I know, my tinnitus began 3 months ago from a major stressor which now has turned into major anxiety.

Would any of these supplements/Apple Cider Vinegar/ etc, help for this type of tinnitus?

All hearing, MRI, bloodwork is normal.

Thanks!

I have now had tinnitus for 3 months. I believe it is stress induced.

Everything has checked out fine; MRI, bloodwork, hearing tests, etc. I have finally been able to pull myself out of the stress but with the help of Ativan.

Is there hope that my tinnitus will go away? I do believe it is now a static instead of a ringing. Thank you.

From what I have seen, the fact it has changed from a ringing to a hiss is a very good sign that it could fade completely, given time.

I know a person with stress induced tinnitus.

It typically is on and off.

Try physical therapy, which often works.

Yes, honestly, it'll likely go away in time. There's a woman on YouTube who I watched - she said her purely stress-induced tinnitus took 9 months to go away (she said it was high-pitched and continuous). A therapist at anxietycentre.com (he's actually the founder) called Jim Folk was mistakenly diagnosed with Meniere's Disease and a few other things, but when he successfully treated his anxiety disorder it went away. He struggled with it for around 12 years and didn't know where his symptoms were coming from. My ENT told me he had lots of patients presenting with tinnitus occurring after a stressful event over the years. He did tell me that no one really hears true silence though, due to the body's inner mechanisms. He mentioned studies that were done and everything. Static is a good sign! When mine gets better it goes from a ringing to a static (actually maybe more of a faint hiss).

Static is, like, the goal line for most of us. I think you may be improving.
English is not my first language, and I find it hard to understand what static means? And what is the difference between static and hiss and high frequency sound?
Thank you :)

I'm sure everyone has their own interpretations, but for me, personally, static would be the sound of a TV or radio that is not tuned to a station. It is lower in frequency and a mellow sound. Hiss would be like static, but very high-frequency and harsh.. maybe like a whistling tea kettle.

Don't mix Prednisone with Ginkgo biloba.
