Tinnitus Since
Cause of Tinnitus
inner ear infection
I got tinnitus in both ears starting about 3 to 4 weeks ago, some days it's not too bad but other days it's deafening me with a high pitched squeal. I got an ear infection and has bad earwax. I had the earwax removed but it hasn't helped I've also has 2 courses of antibiotics which haven't helped. I am feeling nausea and haven't been eating much, my head and ears hurt and nothing seems to be helping, I am also running a temp a lot.

Doctor doesn't seem interested much and says I need to use decongestants, I don't find them great.
I understand it will go away in time but I don't have the patience for all this as I am off work. I need to go back soon and it's wearing me out.

I have read about ginkgo bilabo and b12 which I have started taking.

What can I do?

Hi @Mary d! It's strange that two courses of antibiotics have not helped in treating your ear infection. Is it possible that you've suffered a viral infection instead, that may not respond to antibiotics?

If this is the case, perhaps a course of steroidal medication maybe more effective. Do you have any hearing loss? It may be getting on a bit in time though for this treatment to be effective, if indeed it is the cause of your troubles. You doctor sounds very lethargic. Can you access a ER in an Eye and Ear hospital for a specialists perspective? It's been going on for much too long.

Thanks
is it me or does anyone else feel that docs either have no clue
Or don't care much

had a relapse at weekend after using otomize spray tinnitus horrendous so bad I had to knock myself out with pills to get relief

ANOTHER EMERGENCY DOC who actually gave me a thorough examination and decided it was all coming from a sinus problem I had and again more pills

I am going to kick up a stink with the doc and get seen as nobody is helping
I need bloods scan x ray whatever it takes to get to bottom, new doc even suggested might be thyroid
I am so frustrated I can't tell you
off work losing money and going slowly mad here

Unless your T has a medical cause such as an infection, most doctors can't help you much as they don't have a magic pill to prescribe for T. Most of them don't have a clue how to help T patients.

I've had tinnitus for about 4 weeks now, started with a sticky left ear when I spelt on it, eventually got ear wax out but no better, ringing all the time. Never had this before although I had been noticing hearing loss for a long while at work.

I am feeling very down and some days it's so loud I can't ignore it, I've had a viral infection and three courses of antibiotics the have cured my sinus problems, (the doc said the T was caused by this),

But T continues, I've noticed I have sore neck and base of skull, and also tight neck muscles, I use sometimes a neck massager but it makes it worse.

Any ideas because at this point I'm depressed and feeling like I can't go on.

Will tinnitus go away by itself ?

I just got blood tests that said some thyroid hormones a bit high but no treatment to be given, does this affect tinnitus?

Waiting to see ENT. The odd thing is I feel sick and dizzy too and reply off my food. Hearing some of your stories is scaring me witless.

If you are in the UK then it is likely that the doctors don't care.
Over the coming months/years you will consider and discard so many causes and solutions. It must be hell right now for you.
An associate of mine who had bad tinnitus has now got even worse tinnitus after being put on two courses of antibiotics over the festive season so you may be lucky that your T has not been worsened by your three courses of antibiotics.
Take it from me, it gets easier and you learn to accept it over time. You develop a fatalist mentality and you then realise that there are always people who have it far worse.
I got mine exactly two years ago aged 39, I wanted to kill myself for the first six months, I think it is part of the territory.
It is thought that my T came from constant stress/anxiety/anger and not hearing loss or exposure to noise. To be honest I think neurologists are of more help to us than ENT's as T is in many cases generated from the brain.
