What I feared most happened, the tinnitus hit the second ear. I woke up early and was reading in bed when I started listening on the left side. I'm feeling desolate.

Hi @Jéssica Amorim

This can happen in the early stages of tinnitus and particularly when it was caused by loud noise. In your case "listening to music" through headphones. In my opinion, I advise you not to use headphones even at low volume. If I were you I would never use them again. Please use the sound machine at night as I've advised. You are very new to tinnitus so try not to get too alarmed at changes in the tinnitus or sound sensitivity. This will eventually settle down. It's important to use gentle sound enrichment during the day. Just music playing in the background.

If you are feeling stressed by the tinnitus again try not to get too alarmed as this is quite common. Have a talk with your doctor, and something may be prescribed to help you relax. I will paste some links below and advise you to read them at your leisure. Take your time and read the articles in full. If you have a printer I advise you to print them and refer to them regularly.

All the best
Michael

Hello Michael. Since my tinnitus came I stopped completely with the headphones. However, the volume is increasing gradually every week, which automatically increases my stress. My ENT has indicated clonazepam to help me sleep and reduce anxiety. In the first two weeks it has helped a lot but lately I've been developing the symptoms that I reported in my previous post. I have good and bad days, it has not been easy to accept this new condition. I'm too scared to start losing my hearing. I'll read all the articles you submitted. Thank you very much for the support.

Hi @Jéssica Amorim

I would prefer to you see you on an antidepressant instead of clonazepam. I take it occasionally and it helps but this drug is known to cause dependency if regularly taken. Please speak to your doctor about this and perhaps something else can be recommended. The things you are experiencing is quite common with the onset of tinnitus. In time you will improve but it might take a while.

Hi @Jéssica Amorim
I've been where you are. Had T in my left ear for almost 30 years, and was happy to have my "good ear." I always thought if I got T in my right ear, I'd be screwed, deaf, and it would be the worse that could happen. This spring the T in my left ear got louder and then to add insult to injury, started to hear it in my good ear. I swear the first time I noticed it was when I was meditating. To say I freaked out is an understatement. Anyway, I'm just here to tell you several months later that I am fine. Don't love it, but am used to the new T in my good ear. I agree with the awesome advice from @Michael Leigh that containing your anxiety is most important at this point. RM

Hi Michael,
Second night without taking clonazepam, I had a hard time falling asleep and slept very badly. In addition my tinnitus kept floating from ear to ear. This is normal? Anyway, I'm trying not to get so focused on the noise so I do not go crazy.

Hi @Jéssica Amorim

I believe what you're experiencing is quite normal.
Tinnitus affects people differently and in the early stages it can change and fluctuate a lot. When I first got tinnitus 21 years ago, late one night around 2am, I was woken from my sleep with both ears blasting and emitting a loud piercing whistle that sounded like the kettles of old, that were placed on a gas hob and whistled when the water came to a boil. I was so frightened I drove to my local hospital for help.
