A year ago I got tinnitus from impacted earwax. When I got it cleared earlier this year my tinnitus completely went away for a bit. On my way home from the general doctor I was hearing cars, and my hyperacusis made everything louder (from having ears plugged that long).

I got tired of the noise so I popped in some earplugs. I went home and fell asleep. Time went by and my tinnitus came back bad. Today I was scratching my ear and realized; I forgot to take my earplugs out. I had them in for six months. I took them out and my tinnitus disappeared after 10 minutes. Glad it's finally gone!

How can you possible forget to take the off.Did n't you notice them for 6 months?

:) appreciate the humor man, but many ppl coming to this section are desperate and clutching at straws, not sure this is the right place for this.

This can actually be very serious. At work, about ten years ago, I actually got a foam ear plug stuck in my ear and needed two first aiders to get it out. One used a tweezer and the other held my ear. I rolled it up so thin, it actually went straight through. BE CAREFUL WHEN INSERTING FOAM EAR PLUGS!!!

This happened to me one time (long before I got tinnitus). I was in the middle of nowhere. I had tweezers with me, and I was (eventually) able to pull the plug out myself.

Actually my brother told me once that he thought he was loosing his hearing in one ear went to ENT he found a small piece of cotton wool stuck inside his ear God knows for how long.
Something similar sometimes happens with young children: parents think there is a hearing issue, then a pediatrician finds a small bead, piece of crayon, food, or other small thing that the child stuck in their ear.

My young son had a toy bullet stuck up his nose God knows for how long. When he was crying one day my wife found it and took it out.

About 5 years ago, I had an earplug stuck deep in my ear. I was travelling at the time, but luckily I had a pair of tweezers with me.

Reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Homer was found to have had a crayon stuck up his nose, impacting his brain and resulting in his lifelong inferior intellect. Hilarity ensues when he has it surgically removed and thus becomes a genius!

How do they get him to be dumb again?

The Simsons are very inconsistent. According to another episode there's a genetic condition that makes Simpson men dumber with age.

It's no coincidence those two stories were Homer/Lisa-centric episodes. She's always been the yin to his yang regarding their different levels of intellectual curiosity, and exploring class/cultural barriers and their impact on social progression. Consistency takes a backseat to satire.
