In early November 2021 I started experiencing pain in my right upper 1st molar. I went to my dentist, who told me the tooth had to be removed because it was cracked all the way to bottom. I consented to the extraction that day and 3 weeks later the tinnitus (mostly on my right side) began.

Since then I have consulted various ENT specialists, one of whom has prescribed nasal salt rinses (I use the Nasaline device) in combination with dissolved Betnesol tablets 0.5 mg (Betamethasone). I was also prescribed Betaserc 24 mg., 3 X day. The first day I took the Betaserc, I felt quite nauseous with accompanying chest congestion after the third pill. The next day, my doctor told me to break up the daily dose of 72 mg into 6 doses instead of 3 times/day, but I still felt very unwell after this. So I have not taken it since. With the Nasaline salt rinses with dissolved Betnesol, I worry what this could be doing to me in the longer term (my doctor has not said how long I should continue this routine). My eyes have felt irritated (I had a cataract operation in August 2020 and also have inherited Fuchs' Dystrophy).

From reading the posts on this website, I am wondering if I should give up all these drug treatments, as they could be doing more harm than good and also don't seem to have much success in healing tinnitus! I would appreciate any feedback other members might have on my situation as I am still very new to having tinnitus.

Thanking you very much in advance,
Petrea

Hi @Petrea -- I would try to find a dentist/oral surgeon who specializes in using ozone therapy to treat infections. Ozone is safe and effective; drug aren't. -- Take care...

P.S. You could probably find some YouTube videos on how ozone is used for oral conditions.

Hi Lane, Thanks for your response. Ozone therapy sounds interesting. However, I don't think I have an infection in my mouth where the tooth was extracted.

I am rather wondering how the extraction could have possibly triggered my tinnitus: could it have caused stress to my temporomandibular joint which in turn is affecting my ears? (I have been told this is possible by one of my doctors.)

I will need an implant where the upper molar came out, but I am putting this process off.

Has anyone else had tinnitus triggered by a tooth extraction? I'd be interested in your stories and what therapies you have tried.

Petrea, I hope you are feeling better! @Lane, I just bought an ozone machine from PromoLife yesterday, and I was wondering what experience you've had with it. I did just order the book you suggested, The Ozone Miracle. (y)
