Hello fellow tinnitus sufferers.

I am a 58 year old female and my increased tinnitus started with a couple of vestibular events where if I moved my head the room moved.

I had 2 events two weeks apart but no more in the last 3 months. I had mild tinnitus prior to these events for a couple of years but I only heard it at night and it did not interfere with my sleep.

After my second vestibular event I got extreme anxiety but have worked thru the worst of that, for now anyways.
I had an MRI and they only found a prominent vascular loop within the internal auditory canal but my doctor said he did not thing that was the cause.

I occasionally have tinnitus in both ears. My tinnitus is very high pitched and some days is very loud and I cannot mask it. It never stops.

I am ready to try medical treatments and am looking for ideas, such as acupuncture or wondering if there were suggestions on this forum. I find to cope I have to keep very busy in a noisy environment but that is not always possible. Sleep can be problematic.

Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a CT scan? Have you had a hearing test done? What does your audiogram look like?

My tinnitus is very high pitched and some days is very loud and I cannot mask it. It never stops.

You may want to try mask it with heavy rain, shower, cicadas, waterfall, or even faucet sound. That was what I had to use initially to help mask (even partially due to my bad hyperacusis which could not take loud volume) and I got some relief from my ultra high pitch T. Any degree of partial masking is better than hearing the ultra high pitch T alone. You can set the volume slightly below the T volume as this will help your brain habituate to T. Here are some sites with nice masking sounds to choose from.

TT's excellent audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

or this online sound library, particularly the self-mix nature sounds: https://mynoise.net

or download free sound generator 'aire freshener': http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

or click play to mix these sounds with this simple sound generator: http://asoftmurmur.com/

or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'heavy rain sound' etc.

If you need DIY neuromodulator or notched Acoustic Coordinated Reset Neuromodulation (ACRN), you can adjust the frequency of the sound to match your T:

This one on youtube is probably good for high pitch T as it may give your some residual inhibition and so some rest from the endless ringing.

GregCA - I did have a CT scan, with no negative results, and a hearing test, with no hearing loss. My dr first thought I might have meniere's disease. My hearing test results were completely normal for someone my age, where the highest frequency tones are no longer heard.

Thank you for the information Billie48 - I will check all of those out.

For me, Gabapentin has been helpful in reducing the T noise level. The lowest effective dose for me is 75 mg but sometimes I take 150 mg. I buy the 600 mg tab (doctor prescription required) at Costco for $30 for qty 30 then I use a pill splitter to customize dose. Do NOT use with meclizine or it will cause dizziness. Hope this helps. I still do have bad days (triggered by loud noises (parties, loud movies, etc.) and am looking for a cure. I tried the Raddit maneuver and that seemed to help and bought a Conair Touch n Tone massager ($10) and apply it directly to my right ear (where I have T). It stops T for a few seconds. I am grateful for just seconds of relief sometimes.(y)

Hi

is your vascular loop causing your tinnitus? If yes, what solution is given to you?
