Cause of Tinnitus
Unknown
So two days ago my class had to watch a video about tinnitus. A very dramatical video. All in the video who had it had intense and permanent suffering.

Later that day I looked for some information on the internet. Here I watched a video about a woman who had T. I was absolutely terrified about tinnitus. The next day I woke up with a ring in my ear. The rest of the day I could not hear it, untill I went to sleep. I only slept for 3 hours then woke up with ringing sound in my ears.

I woke up my parents and told them about it. I did not sleep for the rest if that night.

I was and am still absolutely terrified. My heart rhythm was high and I had/have lots of stress. That evening I went to my local doctor. He told me I had stress and a high heart rate, but I was fine. I also had a lot of earwax in both of my ears. He told me not to worry since I watched these video's and I don't Have other Hearing issues. I never listen to high volume music and I never went to loud music events. (It's natural for me to avoid places with loud music. Not because it hurts but because I don't like loud music.) I slept well that (last) night.

Today I went to a doctor to have my ears cleared with water. It's a bit of a weird feeling now, but I can still hear the ring. The sound changes and switches from ear to ear. Also sometimes it's less loud then other times.

Are these signs for permanent tinnitus? Or shouldn't I worry? It has been around 48 hours now.

Daniel.

Having a lot of earwax can be the cause of your T, I would suggest to to (SAFELY) remove the wax by a doctor or over the counter drugs (I think there are like ear spray that help with loosen up the hard wax so it can be transferred out of the ear by normal means). I also think that trying to look for it might also cause you to get stuck on the sound and suddenly it feels MUCH louder than what it actually are. I do that a lot when I get T scares.

Whilst stress doesn't actually cause tinnitus, tinnitus feeds on stress.

Earwax can cause tinnitus. 'Physiological' tinnitus is present in a high percentage of folk (i.e if you are in a totally silent environment, you will hear something). Pathological tinnitus is very common, related to wax, middle and inner ear problems etc. Most pathological tinnitus is of short duration and will clear some time after the causative agent is removed . Some of us have it as a keepsake.....

From what you describe, you may have pathological tinnitus related to wax. Resolution of the tinnitus ALWAYS lags behind removal of the cause.

Try to be calm and fix in your mind that you can have tinnitus for about 3 months, probably more, before it becomes fixed.

It is highly likely that this is going to clear up by itself.

Best wishes,

Fungus.
