Cause of Tinnitus
Noise Induced
Hi again everyone. I'm a few days past the 1 month mark of what I assume is noise-induced T and H.

This morning, I woke up and realized that my T had decreased substantially. I could still hear it in a quiet room, but being outside just walking my dog almost completely masked it.

It stayed this low for about 4 hours, until about 15 minutes ago where seemingly for no reason, it just instantly switched to a screaming high pitched ring again.

Is this something that can happen while still slowly healing? I popped an earplug in just in case the noise of my office was bothering it, though it's not particularly noisy in here.

Sorry for all the questions, just wondering what the deal is with this. Is recovery usually linear, or are spikes like this common?

Hey!

Since you are new to T, the first half year or so your T will change both up and down and in all sorts of weird ways. This is something that have happened to all of us. Your T will find it's baseline soon but don't be scared if it behaves weirdly or "out of the normal" from time to time. We all have bad and good days, some days it is SO loud and other days you might not even think about it too much. Not sure if I can answer if it is healing or not, I hope so!
Wish you the best!

Thank you! Good to hear from you again :) Hope everything is going well for you after the loud sneeze incident!

Apparently there are chemicals in the brain that we produce less when are are asleep, the chemical causes more brain activity thus more T, so waking up its at a reduced level, then as the body begins to wake up the chemical is produced again.

Tinnitus always spikes. I have had it for over 4 years and it still spikes. It is nothing to worry about and normal with tinnitus. It does not make it worse only temporarily. Many long timers can attest to this

@erik Good to know, thank you. It's a little disappointing, since it was a lot quieter this morning, I was hoping it might have been going away.

It depends from person to person. I think mine can be louder during morning than during the day, but I have some issues with my jaw/neck so it might be that I have slept weirdly during the night. But the first min after waking up, T is quieter so the chemical things sounds logical to me. I think that if you notice an overall decrease in the loudness, that is a good sign. However, it is impossible to know exactly what sign to look out for. My boyfriend that had T once before getting in permanently said that his T decreased over months until it faded away completely. Being the (music loving) idiot he was exposed again to loud music where he got T permanently and have had it for the last few years :)
