Tinnitus Spike After Kiss on the Ear. Wait It Out or Should I Start Prednisolone?

Two days ago my girlfriend kissed me half on the ear and the sound was very loud. I jumped up and waited a bit. My left ear felt a bit deaf / numb inside.

I have a spike now. Above my constant sharp hiss, I hear a beep when it's quiet. Usually a spike goes down after 2-3 days, and after taking some magnesium and getting some good sleep.

This one seems to be worse though. After two nights' sleep and a dose of magnesium it's still there.

I just read in threads here that an ear kiss can indeed be damaging.

I still have prednisolone... Should I start a dose or just wait it out some more days while just taking more magnesium and resting my ears?

I don't want to delay prednisolone so long that it won't help anymore.

What would you guys / girls suggest?

You shouldn't be taking prednisone unless directed by a doctor. That medication is very serious and isn't supposed to be taken willy nilly. It is supposed to be take for serious noise induce trauma.

You mentioned you only hear the beeping noise in quiet rooms? Did you maybe just never notice it before until you started looking?

Are you saying that every couple of months, various people decide to troll this forum by making up stories of their T permanently spiking as a result of being kissed on the ear?

Now that I think of it, if someone were to decide to implement the idea in your post, they should stop reading this forum (and all other internet forums). Right?!

In any case, you are right - if someone makes a post that inserting Mitchum antiperspirant into one's ear cures T (an actual post on this forum:

But this is DIFFERENT from Multiple reports made by Multiple users reporting the same phenomena. There exists a number of posts above which it makes sense to stop disregarding people's testimonies, and to adjust one's behaviour accordingly.

You are right - people shouldn't listen to strangers on the internet. Those strangers might tell you that what you have is not a

serious noise induced trauma

when the reality is that what you have IS just such a trauma (as confirmed by an ENT and the multiple posts about it on this forum).

A kiss is very damaging to the ear though... this is common knowledge. I've heard about the dangers of it even before I ever had Tinnitus, like years ago. It creates a Vacuum and sound waves and vibrations... this isn't something light..

Hi guys, thx for all the advice.

I'm glad I went to the hospital to see an ENT. It just did not feel good to start taking it on my own. The nurse agreed. It's one thing to start taking magnesium, no harm in that. But it was the right call to get medical advice for Prednisone.

I only started considering taking Prednisone on top of magnesium because the soundblast coming from this kiss was the loudest thing I had anywhere near my ears for over a year. That was how it felt.

Since it made my left ear feel a bit deaf for about ten minutes I promised myself to get checked if the new tone didn't go away after 3 days.

Now I have to take Prednisone and come back in on Friday. Then I can decide to take HBOT (again) if I desire. But I sincerely hope the new beep is gone by then.

Ps: here I am, insomnia day 1. At least this time I now this is a normal side effect of the Prednisone and not tinnitus keeping me awake for the rest of my life!

I had no (measurable) hearing loss. After taking Prednisone for 4 days my additional tone (or spike) subsided and general tinnitus is back to pre-kiss intensity. I'm finishing me treatment of course!

I have cancelled my (optional) appointment because the ENT assured me I would not get additional benefit of doing HBOT on top of Prednisone. That would do nothing for my chronic tinnitus, she meant. I already did two series of HBOT last year.

So I'm happy, relieved... and waiting again on Frequency Therapeutics / Susan Shore

I too am experiencing this at the moment. I was wondering what the latest situation was regarding this? Did the prednisone help? How bad was your spike?

The spike was not screamingly loud, but I could definately hear an additional tone over my normal hissing.

That tone disappeared after 4 days of prednisone.

I have to say I was surprised that my overall tinnitus hiss lowered too, during the treatment. To a barely audible hiss... I hoped that reduction would be permanent, but it's back at pre-kiss levels now. Which is fine...

Apparently I'm not the only one encountering temporary decrease when taking prednisone... it could have something to do with its anti-inflammatory workings.

As said before... visit an doctor first.
