I've had tinnitus for a year or two now, but I am just coming to terms that maybe it won't go away on a sustained basis. The odd thing is, and why I had hope was, the tinnitus does give me about a day or two of a break every week. It is:
- Always low frequency, about as low as you can get.
- A rhythmic "beep" but changing in frequency until it can become an continuous hum.
- Occurs in the right ear, then both ears, then only the left ear, then nothing. The left ear is the loudest and the most depressing.
- Stops within a fraction of a second of me speaking and resumes immediately when I stop speaking. I can hear it cut out which makes me think it isn't just being masked.
- Audiograms show low frequency hearing loss.
- Perforations in both eardrums and extensive use of Ciprodex almost certainly related.
- Carbamazepine gave me some relief but only for a day or two before I kept having to increase the dosage.
Thanks.
