Tinnitus Treatment a Step Closer: Leicester Researchers

Great news! Hopefully, this will result in the development of a drug that will help. Erratically misfiring cells makes sense to me!

Interesting video... however, it could have been even more interesting if they actually gave an answer to "why the cells aren't able to return to a resting state", since they apparently knew so specifically. She just went on about how unexpected the findings were...

I think this a great reason to be optimistic. There are many scientists working on a cure and hopefully we will see one in our lifetimes. Stories like this give me great hope for a total cure one day.

Joe

thanks again for your diligence in finding current research

i lean towards 4 and 5 too as i see (hear) tinnitus as kinda like seizure activity

ok and a little phantom limb syndrome mixed in for extra effect ;)

best wishes

I'm with Peter. Before I came to this forum, I was sure that T was under-researched. It's been an enormous relief to see all the actual research going on. It's helping me habituate. If I can cope for now, I can hope for a cure at some point; I am coping now. (I must tell my story and introduce myself at some point)

heres a really simplistic idea, so i know i must be acting the fool here..but here it is

if potassium channel openers have the potential to alleviate tinnitus...(and think think they do)

then wouldnt we expect that as a side effect to potassium channel blockers at a high enough dose would be the onset of tinnitus or.... the aggravation of pre existing tinnitus ? ?

an i cant find tinnitus as a side effect..although...when people take thyroid medication potassium levels are significantly modulated and tinnitus is a well known side effect of hyper and hypo thyroidism.....

very strange

Very good point, Tinnitus is also a side effect of immediate discontinuation of Benzo's (Xanax, Valum etc) I cant see the relationship there also?

You have a subtle sense of humor.

Many in the medical community have rationalized tinnitus as essentially a "phantom hear loss" effect, in response to hearing loss. I know for a fact that I can hardly hear the frequency of my tinnitus without cranking-up the volume.

I don't necessarily buy into the phantom effect. But if that's all it is, we may be hoping to bring hearing back from the dead at the problem spot.

some researches are trying to get the ear to re grow damaged hearing cells like what birds and other animals can do (not mammals) in the hope that this might eliminate or greatly reduce T...who knows
