Hi all, first of all sorry for the long post, this is my first time writing in this forum, after several days reading different treads trying to find some answers or relief. So I'll write what I've been through in this time hoping for someone to read and maybe help me or tell m their stories. Anything is appreciated and will help me
I'm 19 years old and have Tinnitus over 1 month with very low hearing loss only on my right ear. I think it started one night like 9 months ago after a really bad cold, but I only had it for like 2 days and went away. A month ago it started really bad, I couldn't sleep or even concentrate in class (I am currently in college). I was freaking out and started feeling depressed, anxious and homesick. Took prednisone over a week but that didn't help and made me more anxious so I stopped after asking my ENT doctor. Right now I am doing better after trying to ignore it and keep living my normal life. But sometimes specially when I am in quite places or before sleeping when I hear it more and I start to overthink it and start feeling depressed again, it makes me mad to think that I can't do some stuff anymore like sleeping as good as I used to or even go to parties with friends and have some drinks. I know it could be way worse but it is a big change for me plus all the stress of my education, money and being away from home.
With stuff related to doctors or medicine, that first night i noticed it I went to the doctor saying I thought my ears were clogged because they are always like that after a bad cold.(Now that i think about it, it probably was the low hearing loss, because it never bothered me since it is almost nothing). They gave me some pills and a nasal spray and left being told that my ears wouldn't be clogged anymore in some time, it would be ok on its own. I waited for like 3 months taking all they gave me and nothing ( no ringing at the time). Went back to the doctor complaining my ear was still "clogged", got some other pills and same nasal spray. In between those 6 or 5 months, i got a cold a couple of times where my ears would be clogged but got better, but i always had that "clogged" sensation on my right ear. After one month, the ringing started out of nowhere. Went to the Doctor and got an audiology test, then it showed the hearing loss on my right ear. First got amoxicillin, didn't help. Then the ENT got me prednisone, only finished one week of the two weeks treatment because i couldn't handle it, still no improvement. Got an MRI since it was the last thing that could explain a reason and possible solution. It showed nothing, just some fluid on the mastoid area but my ENT said it wasn't related to the tinnitus or hearing loss. So thats where I am right now. I was told it might go away in 3 months or some time or it could stay there forever. I am currently taking nortriptylin, just a low dose to help me sleep and ginkgo biloba to see if helps.
I don't know if it will go away since it was probably due to infections not cured at the time or well cured since I wasn't exposed to extremely loud noises or any hits on my head. If you reached this far, thanks a lot for your time and once again any help is awesome.
