Tinnitus Since
June 2016
Cause of Tinnitus
Flu Virus >>Middle Ear Test >>> Ear Infection/Medication
Ive had Tinnitus for about 6 Months now after a bad cold/flu i got in Janurarry, for a long time it was just a low grumble with some high pitch but then it got worse about a month ago and now it has gotten alot worse from yesterday after my visit to the ENT.

My Tinnitus (Before my trip to the ENT) was a highish dull noise, that i could somewhat get used to at moments, or atleast drown it out during the day with music and background noise, but now its a high pitch screech that i cant deal with.

I went to a private ENT because i luckily have UK health insurance. Before i actually got to meet the ENT i had a hearing test with the audiologist or something which is what made it worse.

Firstly she checked my ears for any blockages, which was fine, but this she put a device up to my ear/in, i think its called a tympanometry and she said it might get quite load, to my knowledge its meant to test the responsiveness of the inner ear tubes or something. The hearing test device started off low and gradually got higher and higher to a point where it made me wince. i assumed it was fine considering they were specialists, but very sceptical why they would do this to someone with Tinnitus.

When i finally got to see the ENT he said my hearing is fine

Anyway this is what made my Tinnitus from Minor/Moderate (at night) to almost unbearable now. How am i supposed to feel any kind of hope that this will get better if people that specialise in curing it made it worse...

Welcome and sorry for your new aggravated T. While we don't know of a certainty the future, it has been said by many members that spikes will eventually settle down. If the doctors find nothing wrong with your ears structurally and medically, perhaps that the ears are just too unstable and sensitive at this stage to take the devise the ENT used. It will probably settle down but you must try your best to stay calm and give it some time, as humanly possible as you can. If you can't, then the best is to get some meds from the doctor to help the nerves, or to get some calming herbal supplements, such as Lemon Balm, Valerian, Hops, Catnips, Passion Flower, Chamomile, Lavender, Kava, Melatonin etc. You can google search or check Amazon.com for each of them to know how people review these products, and see if you can take them as a supplement. You can also try masking to help, even if just partially masking, as what I had to do with my ultra high pitch T which was soon followed by severe hyperacusis. I had a hard time initially. But now I am back to living a normal and enjoyable life. So stay up the hope and try your best to stay positive. Stress and anxiety will make T worse. Take care. God bless.

Same thing happened to me.
The ent blew on my eardrum and I had a loud whistle all night. It did go away.

How long did it take to go away?, mines been considerably louder/higher for 4 days now and it doesn't sound like it's getting any better

I've experienced spikes which seem like they won't settle but they will don't worry, what you need to do is rest and let your ears heal as they are very fragile organs that can take awile to recover. Don't focus on how loud it is but instead focus on other things around you. Anxiety will make it sound louder than it actually is. Before you know it will settle down. Good luck
