I have had hearing lost in my left ears since before I turned 5 years old. I am now 54 years old. I had 2 surgeries for a stapedectomy. On the 2nd surgery they put a steel piece in me. I am not sure when the tinnitus started.

In the fall if 2004 I got C.I.D.P (Chronic-inflammatory-Demylenating polyneuropathy) in 2007 when I was having a relapse my Neurologist said I wasn't. 6 month later she said I was. One month later I got IVIG treatments. 11 days before my IVIG treatment I had sudden hearing lost. Where I couldn't even hear the microwave buzzard go off right in front of me. After 5 days of IVIG I was on Prednisone for 2 weeks. My hearing was back to the ways it was before the sudden hearing lost.

So is tinnitus affected by the Peripheral nerves?

Thanks.

I think it could be very possible. The condition involves nerve swelling and inflammation, as well as an autoimmune response. It could be quite possible that your auditory nerve is involved. In fact, this is one of the many conditions my doctors worked to rule out.

Glad the steroid helped with your hearing!

GregCA. My first surgery was in 1989 the 2nd one in 1992.

Thanks for the info, but that isn't what I asked. I asked what they put in during your first surgery (as prosthesis).
Was the 2nd one a revision surgery for the same ear?
