Tinnitus Since

I've just been briefly made aware of tmj related tinnitus, and from what I've read I seem to relate to the condition quite well.

I was extremely stressed before my tinnitus came out of the blue, I had just started grinding my teeth at night, the right side of my jaw clicks every time I move it and I can intensify my tinnitus by moving my jaw in certain positions.

Do you think it's worth exploring this avenue as the cause of my tinnitus?

I would see your dentist who might make you a mouth guard to wear at night to take the Pressure off your jaw and should help your tinnitus.
I have a bad crunching jaw and wear a night mouth guard as had problems with my jaw since a teenager.
Im due to see a maxillofacial specialist again tomorrow to see what else can be done to my jaw as its to bad now...lots of love glynis

Once again @glynis you're a life saver! Apart from the spike I'm going through currently, my tinnitus was in my head and kind of easily ignored. So I'm hoping TMJ is the answer to demonising my T

Ironic my friend, we started this hell bound journey at the same time and are looking at the things. I actually called my dentist this morning about TMJ. My right ear just starting popping on and off this morning, and I had issues with the right side of my jaw, not when talking or eating, but I can pop it at will. I had this for a few months, maybe longer but I only noticed I could force it for a few months.

Called the dentist, explained the issue and they followed up with do you have headaches every so often and I was yes and ringing. TMJ is what they said and I'm going in today to get my mold done. Oddly enough my wife started a while ago that I started snoring and grinding my teeth in my sleep.

Not sure if will help, but it can't hurt.

@Keith D Mitchell Yes our journey has been very similar indeed, everything you've just described is identical to me.

I suppose we should be happy that there's a possible underlying cause that can be treated? Does this mean if we do have TMJ, our T could diminish or even disappear?

There's no concrete way to answer that. If the jaw is causing issues, then yes it should help and eventually cause the T to go away. However some have reported it helped, while others reported it didn't.

@Keith D Mitchell From what I've come to understand, if your T is solely caused by jaw issues then there's no reason why taking appropriate action shouldn't relieve T drastically and/or eliminate T

Unfortunately tinnitus is such a diverse problem that we understand such little about.

I truly hope our journeys end in with a happy result
