Today I Was Diagnosed with Meniere's

Hi guys,

I have bilateral moderate-severe tinnitus for almost 5 months... Left is mild and right is pretty strong with about 10 kHz. Also some head-buzzing.

Seems like I have a bit of hearing loss in the low frequencies in my left ear.

Today I went to a clinic in Madrid specialised in "Vertigo".

They did some tests and the doctor at the end told me I very likely have Meniere's
I never had one of those vertigo/dizziness attacks so I don't know what to think...
He already prescribed me some diuretics, not sure if I should take them. Could they make tinnitus worse?

I'm really devastated since my tinnitus was already a major issue, but now thinking I will go deaf, lay on the floor vomiting for hours/days and a possible increase of my tinnitus by time makes me loose hope and perspective. I'm really depressed and out of hope... Does tinnitus always get worse by time with Meniere's? How many attacks can I expect? How fast does the hearing loss proceed? I almost know everything about tinnitus, but Meniere's is something new and I don't know what to expect.

Please give me some suggestions or experiences since I am really desperate at the moment... Thanks for your support!!!

@David90 - I'm not sure how they diagnosed Menieres' without any episode of vertigo.
Has anyone mentioned Endolymphatic Hydrops as a possible diagnosis too?

Do you have a recent audiogram?

I agree with GregCA. Odd daignosis. I was told I may have Meniere's after I had a vertigo attack in 2010 but I haven't had a propoer vertigo attack since then, only general dizziness. I wouldn't worry too much. Meniere's is really just a name for a group of symptons which include low frequency hearing loss (usually in one ear to begin with), low frequency tinnitus and vertigo attacks. You may have 2 out of 3 of those symptoms but Meniere's always includes vertigo, so strange diagnosis.

Sorry to hear this. Even if a situation looks grim, don't give up. We are here to support you. I do not know if i ever had menieres, but I am no stranger to being dizzy and having vertigo. I have had vertigo as a kid many times and was forced to go to school for one month while being dizzy and suffering from bad vertigo. Don't lose hope buddy, things might look scary right now, but try to stay calm and just get lots of love and support.

Try not get worked up on Menieres as it takes months even years to get that diagnosis.
The first line of defence for menieres is Betahistine.
Diuretics help get rid of extra fluid and in theory help keep ears better regarding balance.
I would just keep a diary of how you are getting on and attacks etc should you need see ENT .

Seems strange that they think it's Menieres. I think you originally thought your T was from clubbing. I would definitely seek a 2nd opinion. It almost seems like he is "guessing" that it's Menieres.
Noise induced Tinnitus usually fades away 1-2 years.

I have the same problem like you (hearing loss in the lower frequencies, tinnitus)
mild dizziness but no vertigo thank god.

Hi Mario! I'm sorry for the late answer... Don't visit this forum since months.
My tinnitus is still bad as fuck, but no sign from Meniere's almost 10 months after the diagnosis. No further hearing loss either!

That bastard of a doctor just scared the hell out of me and even gave me TTTS with his stupid tests. One day I'll go back to see Dr.Pedro Merino in Madrid and it won't be nice... after more than a year with all types of different symptoms I've learned that doctors are totally useless, in fact they will do more harm than good probably!

Don't listen to them if they tell you something good or something bad, doesn't matter if the tests come out good or bad, they just don't know anything about these conditions! If you haven't got proper vertigo attacks you don't have Meniere's!!!

If it's true that I have hearing loss in the low frequencies, I have had it since I was a child, because I would have noticed a change as a music producer.

That hearing loss+tinnitus means your have hearing loss+tinnitus, nothing more and nothing less! Don't be afraid of things you could have, because we "could have" cancer right now and that is bullshit! Just deal as good as you can with your current situation and that's it...
