Tomorrowland and Tinnitus

Standing stupidly close and wearing improperly fitted foam plugs that I soon took off because they kept falling out and no one else was wearing protection. :(

Aaaand that's all I can say for now, I'm sorry. It really hurts me to accept the cause of my suffering let alone talk about it. I spoke up only because I don't want others to go through what I am going through. Maybe one day when I am able to forgive myself, I can be a better advocate for responsible raving. Sometimes the noise is more dangerous than the drugs.

I hear you Lex. I got my T from a concert that I wasn't even supposed to attend and then I did something stupid which caused my T.

I'm better after a year and a 1/2 but not a day goes by where I don't think about what things would be like if I never went that day.

There are plenty worse ailments though so I now focus on the good and try to make up for it with exercise and healthy eating.. :)

Hang in there..

Ok you will see then...

How did you get your T ? What was this big noise exposure ?

I got my T from a clubbing night where the music was so loud it physically made my ears painful. Must have been 110Db or more! Even though this was a clear warning sign, I stupidly stayed because all my friends were fine and enjoying it. I remember actually being glad when I left the club because I could get away from the super loud noise! Unfortunately I had no idea about noise damage or tinnitus and staying for those 2 hours is one of the biggest regrets I carry with me to this day.

Fast forward 4 weeks and my T almost disappeared. I will forever hate myself for this, but I went clubbing again because I thought the T was gone for good. Left the club after an hour and a half and woke up with an even louder ring than I'd ever previously experienced. :sorry:

Try not to beat yourself up over it. -- I actually left the band I saw 10 years earlier because we were right in front of the speakers and it was way too loud! (and we couldn't get beer that time :)

Fast forward 10 years and add beer and you have my T experience. -- I even saw the same band in between those two concerts in the 3rd row and nothing happened.

I thought that being at an outside venue (Wrigley Field) in the upper deck was safe and I let my guard down and did something foolish causing my T..

Trust me. I beat myself up many times and it didn't change anything. It only resonated in me so that I would do it again the next day.

I'm finally getting to the point where I just say Fu@# It! -- You can still enjoy life. Just bring the ear plugs and try to just stay away from the super loud concerts and/or raves. -- I know it's tempting but just not worth it.

Now that I'm a family guy, I no longer get the pressure from friends to go to concerts so that makes it a little easier.

Cheers.

Thank you for your positive message :)

I agree, I'm sure things will get better in the future and I'll be able to enjoy life more. At the moment, being at university, concerts are a big deal and my friends love them. They are pretty understanding but I'm just trying to get over the fact that concerts (indoors, at least) will be off limits for the forseeable future, and I'm a huge music fan.

There are ear plugs available online which are hardly noticeable and less than $20. -- If the seats are by the speakers though, you should definitely skip it.

Hang in there. It gets better.
