Hello All
This site is filled with great information. I lived online now since I got T. It is so overwhelming. I really want to get a handle on this condition. Unfortunately I can't afford the TRT from a clinic around here. I read that a lot of you good people hibituated your selfs to some degree. So my question is can any one point me in the right direction please. Do I just get a few apps of white noise on my iphone. Listen to it as much as I can. Reinforce my positive thinking. I read about these sound generators and I'm wondering if I need one to hibituate. I know I will live with this from here on in but these last 2 weeks have not been fun. Thanks all
 
Hey @Mam1526 you say you've been living online since this first started. I still fairly new to this as well but my advice would be to try and break that cycle. Get out of the house and live you life as best you can. You'll feel better. I see we are from the same area. Feel free to send me a message if you like to share info about local resources for T.
 
Yes, you will find amazing support here. Very good place to vent, and know that you are not alone and everyone here truly "gets" it. This site has made a difference for me.

I have some tinnitus sound apps on my phone...my favorite is Relax Melodies (free...better yet). I also have a sound machine that I plug in by my bed.

I also journal to try to change my "stinky thinking" into more positive thinking.

And I agree with @washashore: While this forum is wonderful, and there are many great resources online, be careful about spending TOO much time researching your tinnitus. It can get you stuck in hyper-vigliant mode, which can make it hard to forget about your T and move into habituation. I had to take a "board break" a few months ago because I was getting too caught up in the online world. Also, be careful: some of the stuff you read on the 'Net about tinnitus either isn't true or dwells on the worse case scenario, which encourages catastrophic thinking.

Anyway, here is the stuff about my sound app.

Ricky81: If you are exploring masking noises, I suggest TM Soft app on the iPhone. Also can get versions for your computer, Android, Mac, etc. Here is their web site: http://www.tmsoft.com/iphone-whitenoise.html

It has 40 plus sounds, including white, pink, brown, blue and violet noise (who knew noise came in so many colors?) You can make your own mixes layering several noises. I found what helped me is to listen to a bunch of noises; my ears tell me which ones are calming and which ones they don't like. My noise choice can vary from day to day, and I use a different mix for sleeping than when awake. And because its on my phone, my noises go with me everywhere. I listen to masking noise less and less as I habituate, but I am grateful I have my app to fall back on during difficult days.

Also: I pretty much always mask at night. I now use a Sound Pillow, vs head phones. I plug the pillow into my phone, and off I go to sleep. Its great -- also less intrusive than head phones (and more comfortable), as I can hear other sounds besides the artificial ones. I keep the volume as low as I can when sleeping. Here is the web site for the pillow. I would buy it without the Sound Pillow MP3 player, and use the TM Soft app, but up to you.

Well i tried masking but felt its one noise to another.. these days i just dont pay attention to the T. I keep myself busy, play music or simply do something.

Ps: it doesn't always work. Rotating your task and way you distract yourself works..
