Hi, I was just invited to go to Las Vegas with some friends. However, I've been there before and know that it is generally a loud city. Are there opinions out there regarding the dangers involved for a tinnitus sufferer? Thanks...

Advice for noisy events and situations:

-Go! Have fun! Relax. If you take precautionary measures you'll be fine:

- For loud music/bands, take really good earplugs (30dB reduction at least) and make sure you insert them correctly per the instructions. Sometimes earplugs can momentarily cause a perceived spike in tinnitus so don't freak out if that happens or if you hear it when you take the ear plugs. It's not causing any damage :)
- For noisy restaurants and casinos, 20dB reduction earplugs will do the trick and will mean you can still hear people around you.
- Take N-acetylcysteine and magnesium supplement before you go out to a noisy event and after you go to a noisy event. It has a protective effect against noise induced hearing loss.
-If you're in a noisy situation, give you ears a break every 30-45 minutes. Even if you're wearing earplugs. Pop away for 5 or so minutes to a quieter place.

I love live music and dancing and I go out often to such events(at least once a week). I take the above steps if I'm going to something noisy. I have clear coloured earplugs so they are far less noticeable. I've had my hearing tested recently and it hasn't deteriorated at all in the last 5 years. My tinnitus has not gotten worse either. I am completely fine!!
