You can't just blame the audiologist. 5-10dB fluctuations are very common and can be audiometric error, patient error (the test is very subjective remember), patient could be very sure or very unsure they heard something, tinnitus could "contaminate" the test, the equipment could be out of calibration, time of day makes a difference as well as patient alertness to name but a few...

No two tests will be exactly identical

There is a tendency to be obsessed by "absolute" test results in the same way as academic grades
