Hello everyone! I've been looking around the forums here and I want to say thank you for all the helpful insight, but also the level of inclusion and care.

I've read several stories about tinnitus having been noticed after a slap. Unfortunately, I have also experienced this. I was out drinking two days ago and as part of a silly game I let a friend slap me in the face. I never expected him to hit as hard as he did, nor did I expect it to hit my ear. I recall it hurting my ear more than expected, but I rather laughed it off and hit him back. Although not as hard and not over the ear.

When I woke up the next morning I could tell without a doubt that there was a new sound in my left ear where I had been hit. I always sleep with ear plugs, so it was very noticeable. Nothing is hurting or seems out of place except for the constant ringing sound. I've noticed the sound changes or disappears if I flex the left part of my jaw. I've always been one to clench my jaw when working out and sometimes it'll make a crack on the left side, but no pain. I've read somewhere linking this to TMJ, but I'm unsure what that means for the possibility of recovery.

I went to see the emergency doctor and he could not see that my ear drum was ruptured and that it'd pass with a 99% possibility. I'm always very skeptical and want to seek the best information possible, which is why I came here as well.

Any information is helpful, although I am aware that many of those in this forum experience much worse and for longer time. It's been less than 48 hours, but the ringing is still there and I am afraid that this will last for the rest of my life despite the doctors words. I have not noticed any loss of hearing or dizziness.

As a gesture of thankfulness for whatever help or information I can get, I will continue to update on my condition in the time to come. Both positive and negative development.

I am very hopeful that this will pass, but also very anxious that it will not. I see mentions of waiting several months to years, but also hours to days. I am very interested in hearing stories of recovery from experienced like mine.

Thank you for reading.
