First day was consult with the audiologist/Dr, hearing test again for the umpteenth time, but by law they have to do it if it is over a year old I believe. The next visit was to try out a hearing aid/sound generators and wore it during the first counselling session. I trialled it, a week later back for another session, tweek the aid and now have some homework. CBT starts with basics of how sound works in your ear and brain, and background on T. Second session was about perception. I did CBT prior and it was non-medical and not T specific, so I did not get alot out of it and I am (was) a counsellor by profession so it was familiar to me. The theory is fine, its the how - the practical. Contrast appears to be a big issue for me. My hearing aids stopped working for three days in between visits so when I did not have the aids I had to scramble to my old methods to cope. I would categorize my T as being severe, but I am sure people have it worse than me. I can not work and now have major depression as well. I am trying to just approach this open minded, one day at a time and see where it goes, no expectations.
