Ultrasonic Tooth Cleaning Spike

wonder if he can clean without any type of drill/ultrasonic machine ..not sure even if that's possible.

They certainly can, they have hand tools that they can use to manualy scrape the plaque away.

My dental hygienist does a bit of both and always has. She said they use the ultrasonic only for difficult plaque, and she checked my teeth before starting and let me know how many spots would need the ultrasonic.

And without me even asking, she told me that she'd set the ultrasonic on the lowest setting to make it a bit quieter.

I didn't even realize that was possible but it was a noticeable difference. I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe ask your dentist to do the same.

What do you mean traditional hand cleaning tools ? You mean no drill/ ultra sonic machine they use .
I am up for my next appointment and he uses drill type /sonic brush type machine to clean.

It is possible. My hygienist was understanding with my tinnitus and did almost all the cleaning with the hand tools. She would have been fine with just that, but I stupidly said it was okay to use the ultrasonic for the last bit. I have a bit of a spike now. I do think earmuffs help a little bit with the ultrasonic (they don't get quite the same occlusion effect that earplugs do), but it's still very loud.

With how sensitive to sound you seem (from previous posts) I would recommend requesting a hand tools only cleaning.

I had cleaning done 14 months ago and I dint have spike ..don't know why but I am
Scared now !
I also had cleaning done and 6-7 cavities filled in one day 4 years back with no issues .

Well if you didn't have a spike back then, you shouldn't be scared now. Did they use the ultrasonic scaler on you 14 months ago?

Hi guys,

I went to the dental hygienist this Tuesday. I regret it so much because he used this ultrasonic tooth cleaning method on me and ever since I'm experiencing this unusual spike. Do you guys have experience with ultrasonic tooth cleaning? And do you know if the spike is temporary or permanent?

Please tell me, I'm out of hope. Just recovered from a depression from a spike and now this...

Same with me but was only a temporary spike.
