So apparently these guys at the University of Pisa (Italy) developed an EEG procedure that accurately tracks the distress caused by tinnitus?

New EEG procedure accurately measures distress caused by tinnitus

"The new procedure, designed by University of Pisa (Italy) postdoctoral researcher Andrea Piarulli, required two classifiers based on brain electrophysical activity that can accurately distinguish tinnitus patients from healthy controls, as well as tinnitus patients with low and high distress levels."

This is not to be confused with the Bionics institute as this measures distress in an objective way, and that is how it differs from the THI/TFI.

It does not measure tinnitus per say.

Is this not similar to a qEEG already being carried out at the Brai3n Institute?

This also measures 'distress' by way of anxiety and stress in a restful state vs. a similarly aged person without tinnitus.

I'm not sure these EEG measurements actually measures tinnitus, but just the levels of stress a person is under with tinnitus (which could be mild levels of stress and loud tinnitus, or high levels of stress and mild tinnitus).

I see no point in measuring the intensity of suffering. When the device shows a number, then what? The suffering continues...

It's much better than the TFI, though - which still seems to be the most widely used tool to gauge the severity of the tinnitus.
