My name is Ella and I have had T for a year in August. It happens 24/7 and I hear it as a high pitched ringing. It started at the end of last summer and I didn't think anything of it until I got back to school. It really started to bother me so I went to an ENT. When I took a hearing test they found that I have perfect hearing for my age. Other symptoms pertaining to my ears include my hearing cutting out completely and then coming back in a matter of seconds, strange noises (I don't know how to describe them), and also hyperacusis (not officially diagnosed but...). I am 14 years old so doctors are puzzled as to the cause. I got an MRI at the end of 2015 fearing the worst. They said it was possible that I had a brain tumor. My parents were really scared but, the results came back showing nothing. It has continued since then but has been a lot more unpredictable recently. I'm considering accpuncture but I don't know much about it. Any treatments you would recommend trying?

Any noise exposures leading upto your T beginning?Ipods concerts etc?Its unusual that your hearing cuts off for a few seconds only to return, something I would be concerned about.Have you seen a neurologist yet?

Welcome to the forum. Do you know what caused your? There are many causes which can trigger or aggravate tinnitus including drug reaction, ear or Eustachian tube infection, ear drum injury, fluid build-up feeling pressured, TMJ, blood circulation, noise exposure or acoustic trauma, neck problems, hearing loss, Meniere's, barotrauma from flight, sleep deprivation, stress, anxiety & panic disorder, grief, etc.

Whatever the cause, it is prudent to remain positive and calm, and try to live your life normally. The more we can do that, the less stress and anxiety, and the less intrusive T is. Have you tried masking your T yet? If not here are some suggestions. Take care & God bless.

@bill 112 I haven't seen a neurologist yet only an ENT and a Sleep Specialist. But, my hearing cutting out only lasts a few seconds and after ward it sounds like I'm in a tunnel. I had gone to a few concerts last summer but I didn't really notice it until the end of the summer and it definitely didn't start directly after (or really, even a week after) the concert date. I know the ENT has checked for fluid build up, ear drum injuries and infections. I'm don't know about the other things @billie48 listed. Next time I go in I will ask about seeing a neurologist. Thanks for the support.
