Cause of Tinnitus
Accoustic trauma?
I got tinnitus about seven months ago after an acoustic trauma. The first few months it was almost always there: either a hiss or a tone. Since about a month or two, I had days where it's completely silent. Sometimes as many as 3 in a row. And then it comes back.

As much as I appreciate the silent days, it's also very confusing and frustrating. I have no idea what causes the silence to come or go. It seems to be entirely out of my hands. Every silent period, I get my hopes up that this will finally disappear. And then it starts all over again. It's also very odd. If tinnitus is caused by damage to the hair cells, why would it vary like this?

I think I'm looking for some insight, encouragement or advice from people in the same boat.

I know you exactly how you feel. It is like a see-saw. You'd think it would get better and stay better unless you reinjured your ears. That's how healing works, right?
