Hi guys,

My tinnitus is very variable. It can be very low and then become very high in the same day. Fortunately, when it is loud it is only for a few minutes.

My tinnitus is very young. I have had it only for a month and I do not know. Did yours become stable after a few months?

The thing is that I am planning to go for TRT and I am afraid I might not habituate because of how it fluctuates.

What do you think?

Mine fluctuates too. It started in the right hear and then went to the left ear and then went to the head and then back to the left hear. There is hissing, crickets, high pitched ringing. My ears have been clogged, not clogged, clogged. I don't know what to do. I went to the ENT and he said "just wait and see if it goes away." I was put on prednisone for 12 days, which caused insomnia. I got off the prednisone and the ringing continued to fluctuate (at a lower level), but my sleep was difficult. I called the ENT yesterday to see if I could get something to help with sleep (the ringing seems to get louder when I sleep in one position). He put me on 10mg of Amitriptyline and I started it last night. I was able to sleep. I remember waking up a few times and hearing the ringing, but wasn't bothered by it.

This whole ear ringing thing is new to me too. The hardest part is that it keeps fluctuating and changing pitch/sound/tone. I go to bed and don't know what to expect the next morning. I have found that benadryl helps to reduce the sound (no one seems to know why, of course). Also, when I do yoga...I notice the sound changing too. It makes me think that there is something working its way through my system. I am incredibly frustrated that no one seems to know what this is or if it will go away.

I found this forum and am glad to know that others feel the frustration too. I am trying to find my calmness with this but it is trying, isolating, and frustrating. I have become hypersensitive to the sound of my ears, thinking "did it go away or is it still there?"

I know they say to "not think about it", but it is a frightening place to be at the early stages. I feel your frustration. This "symptom" is the first of its' kind for me...it is a daily reminder of our tangibility and vulnerability as human beings!

Epin3m,

When yours become loud, did you do anything particular - noisy environment etc... or is it just at random?

Hey Meestijn,

Fortunately it usually only lasts for few minutes.

If it lasts long, what I do is to put some environmental music. Rain for instance.

If it does not work, I just use white noise and that´s it.

I wish it was stable.

I have had intrusive and ever going tinnitus now for about 4 years... It varies day to day and a good percentage of the time from hour to hour.

I wear maskers on the bad days and use a sound machine at nite all the time.
