Cause of Tinnitus
Wax Buildup
I woke up early in the morning with a decently noticeable sound in my left ear. I am sure I got it from listening to loud music on my headphones.

The ringing is not noticeable and hasn't bothered me except for the times when I actually tried to focus on something, it goes away and comes back at random times, with, as I said, pretty quiet ringing.

There is absolutely no hearing loss involved, from what I can tell.

Is there a possibility that this could be permanent/get worse?

The weirdest part about it is that once I get "used" to a certain position (sitting/laying down) it goes away completely, it's not even low, it just isn't there anymore. Anyone else have this?

Loud music can damage your ears, count your blessings that you have Low/non-noticeable tinnitus.....

Well, take this as a warning, trust me. I've been there.
Stay
Out
Of
Noise.
For at least a couple of months.

Leave the headphones for now, don't go to a party at least for two months or so.

I've had the same and went to a party a week later and I had a HUGE spike. Which made things worse and gave me a huge setback. I am 6 months in almost, and could've beaten it already.
You've come to right place, just don't underestimate the risk now.

Also, tell your parents that you NEED premold earplugs when you are going to parties in the future, and use them!

Things will be fine if you follow this!

I never go to parties, just not my thing. About the headphones though, is it absolutely unavoidable? Like listening to a volume of 10 can be enough, not to music, I just enjoy watching videos.

Try to watch them on normal speakers? I would limit the headphone use.

Still more comfortable than having a lifetime Tinnitus :/ just be careful.
Yeah. Just this one time, I just wish it goes away. I can not live with it, I have my dreams that I am going to fulfill, and it took a lot to get that mindset going, seeing it get ruined this easily is not the best thing to experience.
You will likely fully recover.
I really really hope so...

Yeah, take this as a warning, many of us didn't have someone to tell us this..now look where we are.

I believe yours will be gone without any problems, but you may need to be patient. The fact that how slow the hearing related damages heal, may surprise you.

And if it doesn't go away, which may be not the case but I'm saying this just in case, You CAN live and fulfill your dreams just like you can do without T. I too may be not there yet with relatively short amount of time since the onset, I certainly believe that. Believe me, I felt the same things and still feel them from time to time also.

But it is soooo soon for you to talk about habituation.

I strongly advise you not to use headphones for a while, even at low volume to give your ears a rest. If you are fortunate the tinnitus will go away in time and not return. However, if you choose to continue to use them and not give your ears a rest then you risk trauma to your auditory system and possibly hyperacusis. Believe me, it is not a pleasant experience and you will have wished that you could have turned the clock back. Please click on the link below and read the article: Tinnitus, A Personal View. A document is included on headphone use. Try to read the whole article and not skim through it.

All the best

Great. Now you have the idea how awfully scary it can be to live that noise ( or probably much louder than that). Protect your precious ears.

No matter what the cause is, it seems like you have a tendency for developing tinnitus, so please please don't forget what people said here.

Will do. Do you possibly know why the ringing could be posture dependant? Like it changes or goes away depending on what I'm doing.

To me it feels like something related to your sinuses. Do you feel any kind of congestion? Or do you feel dizzy from time to time?

By the way, mine changes a lot too, it went away( I'm not sure if it was totally gone but I couldn't hear anything in silent rooms ) for a few hours for 3 days and screamed brutally the other day. I can't name any reason for that. But that fluctuations started after 1,5-2 months.

Not sure... I'll just wait till I see a doc, will post an update here:D

Thanks a lot for the help, everyone.

One of the major pathways of acoustic trauma is via generation of free radicals. Antioxidants have been shown to reduce damage to the ears following exposure. They need to be taken within a 7-10 day window after onset. The sooner the better.

So you might consider taking some antioxidants like NAC, Lipoic acid, COQ10, Vitamins C, E, A and magnesium.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5442866/

"Current theories of metabolic damage center on the formation of free radicals or reactive oxygen species (ROS) and glutamate excitotoxicity evoked by excessive noise stimulation, followed by activation of signalling pathways leading to cell death [25]. ROS emerge immediately after noise exposure and persist for 7–10 days thereafter, spreading apically from the basal end of the organ of Corti, thus widening the area of necrosis and apoptosis [26, 27]."

I'll just come here one last time for now, to clear up a few things.
I went to a doctor. Turned out it was ALL due to ear wax buildup. I have 100% hearing according to the tests I took, and it wasn't due to acoustic trauma, but due to the wax. So yeah, after the cleaning and stuff it's completely gone and won't be coming back anytime soon since my hearing isn't damaged and won't be damaged anytime soon.
Thanks for all the support guys.
