Tinnitus for 13 years. Last year around this time I started taking the drug Pramipexole. Read it might help with the tinnitus and my doctor agreed to let me try it. After only 8 days of taking it my tinnitus pattern simply changed for the better. Always before I woke up with screaming tinnitus. Now I woke up to very soft tinnitus and that would last the whole day.

On some days my tinnitus would increase but to a very tolerable level. Never had to mask during the entire time. I read where it was very possible that the drug would only work for a short duration and this is what happened to me. It worked 2 months and 2 weeks. Then slowly my tinnitus went back to its original volume and pattern.

Yes I was upset but it did prove to me that a drug can influence ones tinnitus. A few months after being off the drug I tried it again with no positive results. That's what "ticks" me off about tinnitus. You think you might have it figured out but it turns around and bites you in the a**.

Also working for me - fearing the same time constraints will affect me as well.

I am on 0.125 mg twice a day and have had wonderful results. My tinnitus is much more in the background and I forget about it for hours every day. Even when I do hear it, I have little reaction to it.

Getting my life back. I have been on it for about a month now.

Thanks for giving feedback on this. I saw someone recently saying it had been a game changer for them.

Good to see a long-term member trying something and reporting good results.

Which subset do you fit into (hearing loss, acoustic trauma, idiopathic)?

Are you still on Clonazepam and Gabapentin?

I have weened down to 0.5mg Clonazepam and 600 mg Gabapentin since starting the Pramipexole.

Mine was noise induced. I was singer for a thrash metal band and my left ear got blown out being too close to an amp over 3 years ago.

It has been a journey for sure. I wear Widex Zen's 24 hours a day and I have no problem with continuing using them. Being a music lover, the tones are pleasing to me, and they offer just enough random sounds to draw away from the ringing.

Things are looking up for me. I will report back if things go south again. If I disappear, it means I made it to the other side.

I hope the best for everyone here.

That's great news man and you've tapered the Clonazepam from 1.5 mg to 0.5 mg which is a big cut.

It seems there are effective treatments already, it's just a case of having a willing and capable MD to go through the evidence and carefully assess each patient!

Well the party is over. My tinnitus is back. I even doubled my dosage and no improvement. I may have caused more damage at a recent concert so it is possible my positive results would have continued but now I am back on everything.

My psychiatrist is raising my dosage of the Pramipexole to 3 mg a day over the next few weeks, so I'm going to give it one more shot. Will report back.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Hoping you're able to find some relief again.
