Hello,
I just had a blood panel done and my vitamin D levels were very low, at 4.

The doctor recommended 0.266 mg of Vit D every 10 days for a month, which is about 10,000 IU. It seems to me like this is quite a high dose.

Is this too much? Could it be toxic to my ears? Has anyone experienced such a high dosage and any important side effects on their tinnitus?

I haven't started taking it yet.

Thank you for your help

I think you should be fine.
I have been put on folic acid for 3 months or for life as have anaemia.
I think if its a tablet and not intravenous we should be fine.
Just see how you go.
Love glynis

Hello Glynis,
Thank you for the reply. Yes, it is a tablet.

I read your posts often, always very positive.Sorry about the anaemia.

I did such treatment in the past (Vit D boost) after my T onset. I didn't feel any negative effects on my T.

Hey, I had the exact same levels a few years back for god knows how long. Seriously, mine was also at 4. I think you'll be just fine. From time to time I still take 5,000iu D3 daily because my levels constantly drop due to my (lack of a) lifestyle.

It takes a lot of D3 to be toxic. Some people take like 30,000+ weekly in single dose, though I would say this is not recommend outside a clinical setting. Hope you recover!

I had low vitamin D levels last year and took a 1000IU D3 supplement 2-3 times a week to get it back up again. No effect on T. Just tell your doctor if you really are concerned and he or she would probably let you spread the dosage. Anyway, you are under the normal level and it's only once your body has too much D that it becomes an issue. Just take something.

Just this past week I asked a Doc, not an ENT, what he knew about Tinnitus. I know this guy and he is highly intelligent. He started on about the brain, receptors, this and that, that went way over my head. In summary, he said to give vitamin D3 a try.

Since I'll try anything, I'm on it. So far one 400 IU pill per day. I want to be careful with this because D a vitamin that supposedly can be overdone with not so good side effects.

Same here, just took similar high dose every week for 4 weeks, no negative side effects. More energy now though!

Hello everyone, sorry about the delay. It's been a very busy, tough month, with the loss of my loved one. I hadn't seen any alerts so I wasn't aware of any further replies. My most sincere apologies for the lack of feedback.

I appreciate everyone's words and advice. Honestly, since I began taking the Vit D, my bone pain has subsided, energy levels went up (like some of you have documented here) and, perhaps I am imagining it, but I'd say my T levels went down a little. Just a little, nothing extraordinary. Spikes here and there, as usual.

I hope everyone is doing OK. I am now on my second dosage, I am supposed to take it 1 pill every 10 days, 5 times, then go down to like once a month for 5 months.

Thanks again for your kind words.

That's very interesting. Please keep us posted on the progress, I hope it works out for you.

Some studies say that vitamins helps T and hearing and other studies say that's not so, but a good diet is essential.

If a person has low levels of a vitamin, about all seem to agree that a pill or injection would help. Many immune specialists say that if you take this vitamin, then you need to take this vitamin and that vitamin too. I don't who to believe, but the vitamin industry is $trong with promotion.

I have more Vitamin B12 in my system that I need, but when I take a B12 it helps just a little temporary. It may be that it relaxes my TMD and overall stress a little. I think that NAC helped from noise exposure.

In past, I had low D and bone pain that started after a vaccine required to go to a university. Dr's related to fibrous dysplasia tumor history-but pain was more than where I had that. Finally after a year of pain was dx'd w/low D and put on 50000 IU drisdol-ergocalciferol. In a few weeks no more pain. But, dr kept me on it all summer and doubled dose in the fall despite my telling him it made me feel drunk for like 3 days after taking it. I had something like a stroke. I didn't feel anything but better when I first began taking 50,000 IU and it was like a miracle. Vitamin D is cummulative so if you are anything like me, you might begin to notice hung over feeling that you can't shake for a few days. That is a sign of a calcium problem-hypervitamintosis.

@Laurie1961 I think that your posts #13 and #14 are very real. I have heart disease so my cardiologist overruled my GP on the way to treat my low D. I have pain from diseases and conditions that relate to my T.

The link that you gave in post #14 seems to be so correct about pain. That is always a discussed subject on neuro sites by neuros.

I notice that you mention dental work as suspect. I received somatic T from dental work. It happened by a perfect storm - dental whiplash that is mentioned in many sites. I hope that you find ways for relief.

Question, not totally tinnitus related.

I got some blood tests done and everything came back normal minus one thing- Vitamin D. Turns out I'm extremely deficient! Lately on top of tinnitus I've had awful brain fog and some vertigo/balance problems, which of course were dismissed by my doctor. However the doctors want me taking Vitamin D asap! Any luck with this?

Note: hardly any sun where I live and I work nights !

What kind of luck? Magically resolve T? No, but ramp up your Vitamin D levels, yes. Take the Vitamin. I was in the same situation a couple of years ago.

Hey, sorry, not in terms of tinnitus, just general health. Physically I have been feeling very crappy, lethargic, depressed, dizzy! Heck tinnitus is the least of worries. Considering the doctor has found nothing concerning except for the D deficiency I was wondering if anyone had any good changes. This is why I asked this in the off topic section.

This sounds negative, but I'm a bit skeptical that improving deficiencies necessarily leads to improvements in T. But being deficient could make one more susceptible to damage. Of course this is just my opinion and hopefully wrong.
Last year I was deficient in D, but am in the normal range again. Also I think back to my 20s when I was told I was vitamin C deficient. Maybe various dietary deficiencies caused systemic weaknesses.

I'm not aware of any issue taking Vitamin D supplements. It worked for me.
